ISLAMABAD: A summary has been forwarded to the federal cabinet to screen Indian films in the country, said a written statement submitted by the Culture Ministry in the National Assembly on Friday.

The statement said the screening of Indian movies in Pakistani cinema houses was being actively considered by the government and summary in this regard had been sent to cabinet for approval.

The House was further told soon after getting a nod on the summary by the cabinet, schedule and the modus operandi for screening Indian movies in the country would be announced.

The statement further said that the decision was taken to stop Indian films carrying malicious propaganda against Pakistan from screening in India and to counter charges of copying of Indian movies at Lollywood.

The Ministry statement contended the decision to permit screening of Indian movies in the country would give boost to the local film industry and would also make accessible to Pakistani movies a big market in India.

The House was also told that Pakistan would earn huge sum of foreign exchange by the decision.

The statement said if Indian films were permitted to be screened in Pakistani cinema houses, it will help stop Bollywood from producing anti-Pakistan movies in future and will rid the local industry of mafia enjoying financial benefits exclusively.
