KARACHI: Cinema houses in Karachi will reduce the number of shows from three to two a day in Ramazan, owners said on Wednesday. The first will start at 2:30pm and the second at 9:30pm, after Tarawih, said Nishat cinema’s managing director Rehmat Karim Fazli.

Cinemas in the city rearrange their schedules for Ramazan, usually dropping the 6pm evening show, which coincides with iftar timings. “This practice was forced in cinema houses after Zia-ul-Haq came to power,”said the manager of Capri cinema, Anwar Imam. He said before Zia, cinemas used to run four shows a day during Ramazan. “The attendants at the box-office usually ended up having their iftaris at the window,” he said. staff report
