What could be more thrilling that holidaying in one of the worlds most unique capital cities, home of Princess Diana, the Queen, Big Ben, the Houses of
Parliament, Piccadilly Circus, Leicester Square and a lot more? This metropolis
of tradition has so much to offer and has never been so tourist-friendly and
prepared to look after it?? tourists.
The London Olympics will take place next July and August and will mostly be centred on the Olympic Village in London’s famous East End. In case you are
feeling adventurous, you can plan a vacation to soak up not just the Olympics,
but the UK too. Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales all make for lovely day
journeys or week 2 destinations and travel across the UK is straightforward and
cheap.
There is so much to do; generally it?? tough to know the place to start. Here?? our dream Itinerary;
Week One
Choose an airline like British Airways and fly in to London Heathrow or Gatwick. You can either stay in a hotel, or rent a local property
from a site like London Games Rentals. Be careful to book this part of your
journey early though because the Olympics will entice many more guests to London
than normal and accommodation will likely be scarce, particularly after the
Easter break. Some industry insiders are forecasting an additional 500,000
visitors to London as a direct result of the games and that?? on top of the
normal increase in tourism at this time of the year. Factor in the weak pound
and will probably be busy. Do some research in to where the assorted Olympic
events are actually being held as sports such as soccer, sailing and shooting
are not going to be hosted in the Olympic Village.
The first week can be spent following the Games and visiting London. The atmosphere will be electric and there is a lot to do.
Try the popular haunts such as the London Eye and Madam Tussauds, visit the free museums and gallaries such as Tate Modern, the Science museum or the
Natural History museum.
Week Two
What?? special about London is that?? it is perfectly positioned to do numerous different things. We would advocate in the second week that you
rent a car and go see the UK. Attempt to end up at a different departure
airport, say Edinburgh or Dublin to give you a greater chance to see everything.
Our journey would begin with Brighton, positioned on the South coast of England.
Brighton is a good looking English Victorian seaside town that boasts its own
pier and amusement area.
Next day a three hour trip, by way of Stonehenge to Bath to see this beautiful old town. Well-known for its Roman Spa and Old World feel, a trip to
Bath will never be forgotten. Stay for a few days and get used to the West
Country’s lifestyle, it?? a slower paced, and remarkably soothing. Be sure to
take a day trip to Wales and use the old Severn Bridge.
Finally, we’d suggest ending in the beautiful city of Edinburgh, home of the Scottish parliament, and of course Edinburgh castle. Fly out from Edinburgh
airport and you’ll have had the most superb holiday, and seen the greatest show
on Earth – The London Olympics 2012.
