Manager Alberto Zaccheroni said he expects his team to give nothing less than 100 percent on June 14, but following a mediocre 1-0 victory on Tuesday over a
gritty Cyprus team at a friendly here in Saitama, Zaccheroni refused to make any
predictions regarding the Samurai Blue' s clashes in Group C.
The group, which pundits describe as fairly even, will also see Zaccheroni' s men face up against Greece on June 19 and finally Colombia on June 24.
Prior to their World Cup fixtures, the national team will have further friendlies against Costa Rica on June 2 and Zambia on June 6 in Tampa, before
flying to Brazil for the real showdowns.
Hopes among Japanese fans are high being that Japan reached the last 16 at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and had no trouble with the Asian qualifying
rounds, finishing four points ahead of Australia at the top of their final-round
group, to secure their fifth successive World Cup appearance.
But Japan, ranked 47th in the world by FIFA, will have to find their passing flair going forward and be sharper in front of goal, Zaccheroni said, for them
to equal or beat their 2010 placing.
WASHINGTON, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- The Republican NationalCommittee on Friday unanimously approved a resolution condemningwhite supremacists, the Ku Klux Klan
(KKK) and Nazis, two weeksafter President Donald Trump's controversial comments
onCharlottesville violence.
"The racist beliefs of Nazis, the KKK, white supremacists andother like-minded groups are completely inconsistent with theRepublican Party's
platform," said the resolution.
The decision by the city council of Charlottesville, Virginia toremove a statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee from a localpublic park sparked a
white supremacist rally on Aug. 12 that laterturned into violent clashes between
rival protesters.
A 32-year-old woman was killed and 19 others were injured when asports car driven by a suspected Nazi supporter plowed into a crowdprotesting white
supremacism. Two state troopers also died on thatday in a helicopter crash after
helping monitor the rally, demonstrations and clashes.
Trump has been under widespread bipartisan criticism afterclaiming there is "blame on both sides" for the deadlyviolence.
However, the Republican official political arm avoided anycriticism of Trump.
"The racist beliefs of the Nazis, the KKK, white supremacistsand others are repulsive, evil, and have no fruitful place in theUnited States," the committee
said on the final day of a three-daymeeting in Nashville, the southern state of
Tennessee.
Local analysts said the move highlights the level of concernwithin the party over Trump's comments on the protests against thewhite supremacists' rally in
Charlottesville and the impact theycould have on the party heading into the 2018
midterm election.
"You can't emphatically denounce the groups enough. You have todo it by name, you have to do it specifically," Virginia RepublicanParty Chairman John Whitbeck
underlined.
"If nothing else, you want some leadership coming out of this. We're the national party," he said. Enditem
WASHINGTON, June 26 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President Donald Trump held talks with visiting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, hailing strong bilateral
ties and pledging to enhance cooperation in areas such as trade and
anti-terrorism.
"After our meetings today, I will say that the relationship between India and the United States has never been stronger, has never been better," Trump said in
a televised remark with Modi in the White House Rose Garden.
"India and the United States will always be tied together in friendship and respect," he added.
Modi described his talks with Trump as "extremely important," hailing a bilateral relationship that is based on mutual trust and shared values.
"My visit and our talks today will mark a very important page in the history of the collaboration and cooperation between our two nations," Modi said.
On trade, Trump said he looked forward to working with Modi to "create a trading relationship that is fair and reciprocal," but he also urged the Indian
Prime Minister to do more to narrow the U.S. trade deficit with India.
"It is important that barriers be removed to the export of U.S. goods into your markets, and that we reduce our trade deficit with your country," Trump
said.
Last year, U.S. trade with India totaled an estimated 114.8 billion U.S. dollars, and U.S. trade deficit with India was 30.8 billion U.S. dollars,
according to U.S. official figures.
On security partnership, both U.S. and Indian leaders emphasized the importance of combating terrorism.
Trump said both countries have been struck by the "evils of terrorism," and are determined to destroy terrorist organizations and the radical ideology that
drives them.
"The top priority for both President Trump and myself is to protect our society from global challenges like terrorism," Modi said.
Modi landed in Washington on Sunday to start his two-day visit to the United States.
