The 1930 event was played in Uruguay. The World Cup featured 13 different teams that would go to Uruguay to
play in the three different venues that hosted games. The event took place
between the 13th and the 30th of July. In all there were 18 matches played.
These matches were exciting and featured 70 goals scored while nearly 500,000
fans observed.
Group 1 of the event featured Argentina, Chile, France and Mexico. Argentina was the favorite coming into the event in their group.
There was a lot of drama as each of these teams squared off, but in the end
Argentina would come out on top. They would progress to the semi-finals of the
tournament.
Group 2 featured Brazil, Bolivia and Yugoslavia. Brazil was the clear-cut favorite of this group entering the tournament. Despite being the
favorite, they suffered a huge upset, losing to Yugoslavia in the opening match.
This victory for Yugoslavia was huge. They would go on to beat Bolivia as well
in order to progress to the next round of the tournament.
Group 3 featured Uruguay, Peru and Romania. Uruguay was the home team and would thus
have the support of their nation at their backs throughout the tournament. They
would take on Peru in their first match in a very close battle. They pulled out
a 1-0 victory in the end. Uruguay would go on to advance after taking home a 4-0
victory against Romania.
Group 4 featured the United States. They were a dominant team that would take out Belgium and Paraguay in impressive fashion to
move on to the semi-finals.
The Semi-finals would bring the four group winners together to square off. Argentina and the United States would square off
for their chance to go all the way to the finals. The Argentine team managed to
jump out to a 1-0 lead at half, but the Americans still thought they had a
chance. This was not the case however, as Argentina went on to dominate the
United States in the 2nd half, scoring 5 more goals. The Argentine team would
move on to the finals.
Yugoslavia showed some magic in the group play, but they would really be tested against Uruguay. Uruguay was tough and had a
home field advantage. They would jump to a 2-1 lead before exploding in the 2nd
half. Uruguay would take home a 6-1 victory to advance to the final.
The game featured an interesting aspect where each team chose their own ball to be
used for each half. The Argentine team managed to take a 2-1 lead while using
their ball in the first half and they looked like they might take the
victory.
When the ball was changed in the 2nd half the Uruguayan team pulled away, outscoring the Argentines 3-0 in the second half, taking home a 4-2
victory for the World Cup.

CARACAS, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- Two countries have stood out at the 2016 International Book Fair of Venezuela (FILVEN): China and France.
The 10-day event, which kicked off last Thursday at the Teresa Carreno Theater in Caracas, was attended by 134 national and international publishers,
including those from Spain, Belgium, Cuba and Russia.
In addition to its traditional stand offering books about China, the Asian giant this year features the "Digital Book Room," where visitors can download
digital books as well as movies and music produced and edited by the Venezuelan
government.
Sponsored by China's Zhong Xing Telecommunication Equipment Company and Huawei Technologies, the digital room has been a hit with fair-goers, featuring
a variety of activities ranging from book presentations to theater performances.
"It is a digital library with around 500 titles, from books to films and music," the National Book Center's President Christian Valles told Xinhua.
While this year marks the third time in a row that China is participating in FILVEN, "it is the first time the fair has this space for downloading and
exhibiting digital readers," said Valles.
France is FILVEN's guest of honor this year, and has drawn attention with two works that relate to Venezuelan revolutionary Francisco de Miranda's travels
through France.
One is a children's book that tells of Miranda's participation in the French Revolution, and the other is a historic tome titled "Miranda and France in the
Era of Lights and Revolutions," according to France's Ambassador to Venezuela
Frederic Desagneux.
The fact that Miranda fought in battles of the French Revolution explains why this part of history these two nations share through the historical figure is
celebrated, the ambassador said during the fair opening.
Miranda also took part in the American Revolutionary War and the Spanish American War, driven by a vision to unify the Spanish-dominated countries of the
Americas.
"France was chosen (as guest country) due to its close ties to Francisco de Miranda. It is a historic tie that unites the two nations," Valles said.
