Bollywood stars like Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapur (left) shifted base to Dubai, for the first year of the GIFA (Global Indian Film Awards) awards, in a three-day extravaganza.
It started with the premiere of Suniel Shetty's new film, Padmashree Laloo Prasad Yadav on January 25.
While stars stayed off that event, they came in bigger numbers for the football charity match the next day, at the Dubai Police Club. The proceeds of the match would be sent to the tsunami relief fund.
The teams were divided into Salman Khan's and Sohail Khan's team.
Film personalities included John Abraham, Sajid Nadiadwala, Aftab Shivdasani, Arjun Rampal, Prabhudeva, Kunal Kohli, Sanjay Kapoor, Chunkey Pandey, former cricketer Mohammed Azharuddin and about six members of the UAE national football team.
But it was the 65-year-old filmmaker, Feroz Khan, who stood out as the goalkeeper, when he saved two goals!
Cheerleaders, aged between 15 and 16 years, cheered the teams with songs from Salman's Mujhse Shaadi Karogi
"We practiced for six hours yesterday, and some more today!" one of them exclaimed. Of course, they did not mind it much, as they cheered for Salman!
John Abraham, who scored a goal, got his share of cheers from Bipasha Basu, sitting in the stands.
Boman Irani took over Harsha Bhogle's role as commentator.
Salman's team won 7-5.
Of course, as Sanjay Kapoor, who was in the losing team, said later, "It did not matter who won or lost. It was the spirit that mattered."
