Trailer duration: 1 minute 15 seconds

The trailer of Soham Shah's much anticipated supernatural thriller Kaal was recently premiered on Star News' program Masand Ki Pasand. And for those who missed out the action, here's a glimpse into the promo and some interesting tidbits relating to the movie.

Kaal is an elegant example of an attractively cut promo garnished with interesting punch lines to give the appropriate feel of the film. Rather than opening to the star appeal of it's colossal cast, the trailer commences with glimpses of the dark and stark forest. Wild facades of an upturned bat, eagle, monkey, python and owl make appearance (before Vivek Oberoi, John Abraham, Lara Dutta, Esha Deol or Ajay Devgan emerge onscreen) generating a suitable eerie ambiance for the film. Kaal marks the transition of Dharma Productions (Johar's production house) from their regular feel-good factor films to attempting a full-fledged thriller.

The prey in this thriller is obviously a human. But what arouses interest is the predator whose identity is not entirely revealed except that it's eyes resembles to that of a wild cat.

The starcast of the film is subsequently introduced with crispy punch lines for each.

Vivek Oberoi - Never break the rules
John Abraham - Never defy destiny
Lara Dutta - Never deny superstitions
Esha Deol - Never question beliefs

Some fast-paced wild action follows in the trailer. Salim-Sulaiman's background score adds to the effect of the proceedings.

Ajay Devgan makes a late (and the last) appearance in the promo. Clad in a black pathani outfit with a traditional kada around wrist, lathi in hand and an OM amulet (now this may add to the cliché related to supernatural thrillers) across neck, Devgan makes a direct impact with his intense brooding eyes and striking persona. Sanskrit chants accompany in the background as the punch line reads 'Time to die'.
The trailer terminates focusing on a majestic tiger on its prowl.

Each of the male protagonists (Vivek Oberoi, John Abraham and Ajay Devgan) is given an uncanny look to generate suspicion towards their humanity. The story of Kaal revolves around these three guys who meet in mysterious circumstances in the forest of Jim Corbett Park (India) and recount their respective creepy experiences in the jungle. They decide to stick together to support each other in the wild but consequently start suspecting each other of being a ghost. But who's the real ghost?

Jointly produced under the banner of Karan Johar's 'Dharma Productions' and Shahrukh Khan's 'Red Chillies Entertainment', Kaal promises to be a fascinating supernatural cinematic experience this summer. Also expectations should be rife considering the fact that debutante director Soham Shah has assisted prolific filmmakers as diverse as Karan Johar and Ram Gopal Varma.
