Some of the biggest stars from the sports fraternity and Indian film industry joined hands to play cricket in a match between a Kapil Dev-led eleven and an Aamir Khan-led eleven at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai on Friday.

The charity match, staged under the auspices of the Hero India Sports Academy, ably supported by the Mumbai Cricket Association, raised money for those affected by the recent tsunamis disaster in Southeast Asia.

Kapil Dev XI, chasing 247, won by five wickets and a ball to spare in the 30-over match.

Virender Sehwag (84) and Javgal Srinath (48) top-scored for the winners.

Master batsman Sachin Tendulkar and Bollywood star Aamir Khan chat with some of the affected children, who were flown to Mumbai for the match.
Tendulkar, the guest of honour for the match, expressed hope that the havoc caused by the tsunami in several parts of India will not occur again.

"I am happy to be part of this noble cause, as every human being should come forward and contribute as thousands of people have been effected," he said.

The Kapil XI boasted of some big names in Mohammad Azharuddin, Javagal Srinath, Aravinda D'Silva, Parthiv Patel, Pullela Gopichand and stars from the Indian film industry.

Kapil appealed to the masses to contribute open-heartedly and thanked all the stars who took part in the match to raise funds for the Prime Minister's Tsunami Relief Fund.

"It was also heartening to hear that our Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh refused aid from other countries," the former India skipper said.
India's latest tennis sensation Sania Mirza, who made headlines with an amazing performance at the Australian Open, where she became the first Indian woman to reach the third round, also turned up to support the noble cause.
Two minutes' silence was observed for the victims of the disaster, followed by the Indian national anthem, before the start of the match.

The huge crowd that gathered at the Wankhede stadium was encouraged to donate generously.
