Younis Khan has been named as Pakistan's vice-captain for their forthcoming tour of India, while Arshad Khan, the tall offspinner, has earned a recall to the Test team. Shoaib Akhtar, who recently ruled himself out of contention with a hamstring injury, was left out of the 15-man squad announced today by the Pakistan Cricket Board.

Shabbir Ahmed, who has been struggling with injury, did not recover in time and nstead the pace department is spearheaded by Mohammad Sami, and also includes Rana Naved-ul-Hasan and Mohammad Khalil. Pakistan will also lean heavily on Abdul Razzaq's medium-pace.

Danish Kaneria heads the spinners and will be assisted by Arshad, who was rewarded with a recall for performing consistently in domestic cricket in Pakistan. Arshad last played a Test against England in 2000-01. Shoaib Malik and Shahid Afridi, the allrounders, strengthen the spin department.

pak is ready to lose yet another series between india-pak indian batting is just too strong...they have good spinners...and now that they got not-so-bad pace attack too... ohh well..sh*t happens

well, pak's batting ain't bad either...provided they can play up to their potential...i mean...inzi,youhana,malik and afridi can make a big difference...even though they can suck big times at same time too

i dunno why imran nazir is not given a chance...kher...let's see...pak might surprise

Pakistan 273 (Abdul Razzaq 63) v Indian Board President's XI 91-1

Abdul Razzaq top-scored for Pakistan as they prepared for next week's Test series against India by making 273 against the Indian Board President's XI.

In a rain-affected match at Dharmasela, the home side reached 91-1 by the close on the second day.

Razzaq hit 10 fours and two sixes in a typically aggressive innings but, though seven of Pakistan's top eight got a start, no one else made a half-century.

Only new vice-captain Younis Khan, who made a first-ball duck, failed but Pakistan were struggling at 169-6 before Razzaq and Kamran Akmal (34) added 59 in 10 overs.

Razzaq hit Venugopal Rao for two sixes, but the part-time off-spinner still claimed three wickets.

Rana Naved-ul-Hasan was the wicket-taker for Pakistan but the President's XI had an unbroken stand of 74 for the second wicket.

Mohammad Kaif, a surprise exclusion from the Test squad, ended the day on 42 and opener Dheeraj Jadhav, the highest run-scorer in Ranji Trophy competition this year, made an unbeaten 30.
