LAHORE: Star singer Junaid Jamshed, who bid farewell to the music world due to his religious leanings, has been getting death threats after he shaved his beard to work in a movie directed and produced by Shoaib Mansoor.
Indian film legend Naseeruddin Shah is also starring in the movie. A very upset Junaid Jamshed told Daily Times on Thursday that he was being chased by strangers and getting death threats after he shaved his beard to work in the movie Khuda Key Liya. They have even threatened to kill his family.
“We know your whereabouts and can kill you at any time,” an anonymous caller said. Jamshed who has recently signed the film, said that after receiving these threats he was having second thoughts on whether he should stand by his decision. “ I am reviewing it and might not do this film,” he added. Junaid gave up singing a few years ago, grew a beard and joined the Tableeghi Jamaat, saying singing did not fit into his lifestyle anymore. After a considerable gap, noted producer Shoaib Mansoor offered him a role in his movie.
Mansoor told Daily Times that the subject of the film was serious and was not the kind of a movie in which a hero runs after a heroine in gardens.
Mansoor said that Naseeruddin Shah would play the role of a Muslim scholar in the movie. Shah wanted to avoid media hype and therefore did not talk to reporters.

This is totally crazy. What Junaid Jamshed does with his beard is entirely his choice. No wonder in a society like ours performing arts especially the film industry cannot flourish.

but it is gunaah to cut of all of ur beard once u grow it. like i mean, once u get the "niyat" to grow the beard and u grow it, but a year later u cut it off. it is gunaah to do that.

Agree with Paki Lion. These are the people who are destroying our religion. Islam is such a simple and straight forward religion. There is no compulsion in our wonderful religion.
Majority of these people are uneducated and don't even now the true teachings of the Holy Quran but they all follow the mullahs.
Firstly it was the fatwa against Meera and Know this. No wonder we are becoming the laughing stock of the world.
It looks like our so called mullahs don't have anything else to do.

why? and why only meera? do u think all paki boys and girls in pak are shareef? should they get threats too? death threats is not allowed in any single condition and even if meera get killed whats advantage will we get? NOTHING!so i dont understand wants her to be killed or Junaid Jamshed..

Some bad news regarding "Khuda kay Liye" because both Junaid Jumshed and Ali Zafar have decided not to work in the film any more according to the Urdu daily "Khabrain".
First it was Shaan who refused to work. Junaid has decided not to work after all the threats over his beard and also said no on the advice of the Tablighi Jamaat.
Ali Zafar has also decided not to work because of the treats by extremist religious parties.
Salman ahmad might do Junaid's role now but Shoaib Mansoor has to find somebody else for the main hero's role and shoot all the film again from scratch.
This is very sad that extremists are hell bent on destroying our nation. What service are they doing to Islam by these actions.
One still hopes that this film does get made but I am having my doubts. Shoaib Mansoor should not back down and complete is project.
