Actress Angelina Jolie met Pakistan's prime minister in Islamabad to thank him for hosting Afghan refugees.
Her visit with Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Wednesday came two days after a census showed that more than 3 million Afghans were living in Pakistan. Millions of Afghans have fled to Pakistan to escape wars and poverty since 1979, when Soviet troops invaded Afghanistan.
Jolie, who is a U.N. goodwill ambassador, will meet Afghan refugees during her three-day stay, officials said.
She accepted an invitation from Aziz to be the keynote speaker at a donors conference to raise funds for Afghan refugees that will be hosted by Pakistan later this year.
The 29-year-old actress began working with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in 2001. She has visited refugee camps throughout the world.
