33rd Int’l Emmy Awards being judged In Mumbai

The 33rd International Emmy Awards will be judged in Mumbai for the first time on August 11th 2005. The 2 categories to be judged are ‘Comedy’ and ‘Non-Scripted Entertainment’. The all-Indian jury consists of 21 creative, film and TV professionals from the country. Of the total 26 international entries for the two categories, three are from India.
Sandy Clark, International Academy of Television, Arts and Sciences Emmy Judging Manager, who is currently in Mumbai for the judging process said, “India is a very developed film and television industry and has had a long association with the Academy. The Academy thought it would be appropriate if the country’s TV professionals to have a chance to choose the best international TV programmes”.
The jury members are some of the most high profile television professionals of the country including Aakash Khurana, Aatish Kapadia, Abhimanyu Singh, Anuradha Prasad, Ashwini Dheer, Ashwini Yardi, Asit Modi, Cyrus Oshidar, Jaaved Jaaferi Jamnadas Majithia, Nikhil Alva, Puneet Goenka, R D Tailang, Rajiv Mehra, Saakshi Tanwar, Sailesh Dave, Simone Singh, Shantonu Aditya, Sunil Lulla, Tarun Katial, Vipul D Shah
Anil Wanvari, board member of the International Academy of Television, Arts and Sciences, and the founder of the Indian Telly Awards, is hosting the judging. “This is a great opportunity for Indian television professionals as it gives them a chance to not only see, but also judge the best that television all over the world has to offer. When the academy approached me to host the awards, I willingly accepted as it makes Indian TV professionals part of a global process.” he said.
The International Emmy Award for Comedy was won by Berlin Berlin from Germany in 2004 and The Kumars at No. 42 from the United Kingdom in 2003. In the Non-scripted Entertainment category, the winners were Brat Camp from the United Kingdom in 2004 and Without Prejudice? — Ep. 1 from the United Kingdom in 2003.
