Salaam, I am sure you all have seen or heard the stories of earthquake and how desperately people need our help. Please dont celebrate eid like we used to celebrate. dont be happy, dont make plans to have fun. Please wear ur old clothes and help them with the money for which you're gona buy new clothes. Please...... I am sure many of you have already thought that. I really appreciate that.

sarasara, the spirit of help of sharing is great as it is and Eid is another occasion for it. calling people to donate clothes money to victims, eating simple food on Eid, and to avoid lavish parties and fun are all great appeals and reflection of great sense of feeling with fellow countrymen.
Celebration of Eid is required in Islam. Definition of celebration could be different. Sense of happiness for attaining taqwa and then thanking Almighty for the opportunity and praising His Greatness is Eid. Eating sweets and visiting friends and famiy is Eid. Giving charity (Zakatul Fitr) is Eid. Offering special prayers on the day is Eid. Allah SWT sends angels who greet, send peace, and mention glad tidings to those who fasted in Ramadan. Happiness on that day is required because your and my Lord's pleasure is in it and our pleasure should be in His pleasure.

smooth_daddy, let me tell you something... I agree with the meaning of Eid but "NOW" Eid is being celebrated with somehow different way. What I meant was that instead of getting 3 suits, get one. Instead of having a big party with so much glamour , make it simple. Instead of going outside and having dinner in a 5-star hotel, eat some home made dishes among your family and friends. What you are telling me is what is written in the books and very few people obey that but THATS FINE. I STILL AGREE... but please make it simple...

well! you agreed wid what I said and I agree wid simplifying eid celebrations - no differences.
I found making a general statement "do not celebrate Eid", a little offensive. What's written in the books is the truth. What wld you make of a nation who ladened books on donkeys
BTW what you are suggesting is not very different from what's in the books. I guess we are on the same page with different approaches
