The new CTXTM X-ray fluorescence (XRF) elemental analyzer from Bruker was announced today. The CTX is a tiny, light-weight, safety-interlocked, and battery-operated portable XRF. The self-contained CTX is really portable, weighing less than 7 kilos and having a 14-centimeter-wide footprint.

The new CTX Counter Top XRF has a 4W X-ray source with Bruker's unique SharpBeamTM optimised X-ray geometry, a high-performance silicon drift detector (SDD) with Bruker's patented DetectorShieldTM, and Wi-Fi, Bluetooth®, and USB connection, as well as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth®, and USB connectivity. The CTX's touch screen user interface allows you to control measurements and view results. Optional PC software includes Bruker's Artax for sophisticated qualitative and semi-quantitative composition analysis, as well as EasyCalTM for user-defined empirical correlations.

Minerals and mining, food safety and agriculture, pharmaceutical raw materials, precious metals, polymers, and marine fuel oil analysis are among the sectors and applications for which the CTX is tailored. It's made for applications that need sample preparation and/or presentation in a cup or bag, as well as tiny samples and samples that require longer measurement periods than a few seconds.
While the CTX CounterTop XRF was developed primarily for use in mobile and field laboratories, it is also suitable for use in central labs and on the factory floor for rapid pre-screening and regular analysis, as well as as a backup for bigger XRF or ICP/AA systems.

The CTX focuses on high-performance EDXRF in a tiny, lightweight, and portable package. The corrosion-resistant stainless steel body is easy to clean and withstands all environmental conditions. The CTX is really portable, weighing less than 7.5 kg and measuring less than 27 cm in height. It takes up very little room on any surface. The CTX is protected by a Pelican case and an optional protective backpack. All user functions are controlled via a front-panel touchscreen display or a USB-connected PC. Under the display, connections are easily accessible. Samples can be deposited directly in a large enough safety chamber or in sample cups, baggies, or other containers.
