Plan to build ‘Film City’ final
Hammad Yassar
LAHORE: Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) has devised a comprehensive plan to construct Film City in collaboration with the Film Directors and Producers Association, said PHA Co-ordination Director Asif Zaheer.
“The project is a joint venture of Tajdeed-e-Lahore and PHA and will start soon after the Tajdeed-e-Lahore committee’s meeting which will be held later this month,” said Asif, adding that Punjab chief secretary will chair the meeting.
He said that PHA director general suggested the project for which Amjad Farzand will be the media co-ordinator.
He said that the Film City will be constructed from Macleod Road to Royal Park, with Royal Park as the main hub where a film library, film museum, film gallery and a theatre will be constructed to promote the film industry.
The project will emphasise increasing the viewers of local films by providing a favourable environment where the people can enjoy local movies with their families.
“Standardised billboards will be erected in the city for directors to advertise their upcoming projects,” said Asif.
Renowned film director Hassan Zuberi stressed the importance of building a film laboratory to compete the international market and said that the Film City would give a fresh breath to the dying film industry.
Talking about the outdated equipment being used in the Pakistan film industry, Hassan said “We are using 60-year-old BL4 Cameras which are now obsolete in the international market, even in our neighbour country.
If we are provided with new equipments, we can compete in the international market.”
Director Asif Khan also declared the City a healthy step towards reviving the Pakistani film industry’s old days.

One just hopes that this is not yet another announcement because for the last few years we keep on hearing about a film city or a new lab but nothing has ever materialised.
I really feel sorry for our film industry the way it has been treated by every goverment for the last 58 years.
