Ice skating, snowmobiling, and cross-country skiing are all wintertime activities. Twelve cross-country ski ranges and fifteen downhill ski ranges are on the ski runs. The biggest ski resort in the country is this one. Skiing attracts more than half of Lake Tahoe's winter tourists. Rock climbing is practiced at Sugarloaf and Phantom Spires on South Lake Tahoe, as well as Bear Valley in the Central High Sierra Nevada. Bear Valley contains climbs no above 100 feet, whereas Sugarloaf has a pitch of around 350 feet and is a well-liked climbing location in the winter. The climbing at Phantom Spires is challenging and is best done from early summer to late October.
