-PROJECTING PAKISTAN'S DEVELOPMENT
INAUGURATION ADDRESS
“I do realize that you (the media) are the fourth pillar of the state. And I facilitated your growth and bonding. I will also say that you will be the first line of defense in my point of view.” (General Pervez Musharraf, President Islamic Republic of Pakistan - APNS Awarding Ceremony: May 27th, 2006)
Respected Forumers; dear countrymen:
We, on behalf of the managers, administration and the development team of Urbanpk, welcome you all to the grand opening of yet another landmark in the online presentation of the economic miracle of Pakistan. We realize that the ignorance is the source of the bad reputation of our country in the minds of some Pakistanis and foreigners. We conclude that solid efforts must be taken to present the truer image of Pakistan, so that there are academic resources available for the researchers who are looking for the development news of the country. For that purpose, a dedicated online forum was required that would cater the needs of all those who are interested in knowing and keeping an eye on the economic, social and political development of Pakistan. This site, therefore, is the result of many months of hard work and consistency of a young and vibrant team that joined hands together to make a forum that would help promote a soft image of Pakistan, by highlighting its achievements and keeping an eye on its day-to-day developments. It gives us great pleasure to announce that the urbanpk.com team has managed to restore most of our archives from the projects threads that were created at urbanpakistan.com. The team also has created many new projects archives that have come up since the times of urbanpakistan.com. Our database of different development projects is registering a phenomenal growth, and we are striving hard to enlarging it further. In time, the team intends to create the largest database containing a vast collection of completed, under-construction, approved and planned development projects online for Pakistan.
We have designed the urbanpk.com to be a very versatile site for all kinds of discussions and developments going on in Pakistan. We have, on our front page, the introduction to Pakistan, its land, its people, its culture and languages, its cuisine and the popular tourist destinations for the county. We also have included an introduction to some of the major cities of Pakistan, including Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Gwadar and Multan. Our forums section is much more diverse and includes our standard sections such as “Construction and Updates”, “Image and Media”, “Experts Section”, “Real Estate and Property Dealers”, “Economic and Business News” and “Tourism and Attractions”. Four major cities have their separate sections: Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, and Gwadar. Beyond our usual sections, we have expanded the urbanpk.com to include special sections such as “Social Forum”, “Sports”, “Politics and News”, “Military” and “International Politics”. All these were possible because of the dedication of the Team and the Management of the forum.
Over the next few weeks, we expect to achieve our goals of creating the most vibrant development and discussion forum for the Socio-Economic sector of Pakistan on the internet. We are expecting all of our members from our previous sites to come back and join us in this mega project, and help us mature this forum beyond that which was ever achieved on the other discussion forums of the country and the rest of the world. To achieve our goals, we will need the co-operation of each and every member of the forum; to help us create a better, exciting and disciplined atmosphere on our forums. Members would also be highly appreciated to contribute positively towards the growth of our forums, by posting and updating the economic development news and pictures from the country. We believe, as Dr. Iqbal believed, that “every individual is a star of the future of the nation,” and in those high spirits we welcome every body to help us eradicate the false image of Pakistan from the hearts and minds of Pakistanis and non-Pakistanis, alike. We will allow the disagreement, but in order to create a healthy discussion environment, we will have to remain in the best of our spirits about our country. Many people have worked hard to make this site possible, and we would welcome any one who can contribute to further improve the high quality of the work that has been done.
We would like to extend a very warm welcome to all the new and old members of urbanpk.com, and would encourage all our members to contribute to the stories of the day-to-day economic developments of the county. We would also like to extend a special thanks to all those who have worked day-and-night to bring to you a magnificent site, which has a huge archive of most of the development projects of Pakistan. Finally, we would like to thank and congratulate our Management team – Zain Abbas [UnitedPakistan/webmaster] and Asim Aquil - for their consistent efforts and months of hard work. We would also like to extend our thanks to our Content Team – Gumnaam, Khuree & SwerveUT – for their help that made it possible for us to complete the site on a given time. Their articles have been made a part of the urbanpk.com site, as our special thanks to the dedication of these gentlemen. Our best wishes and a warm thanks are hereby extended to our Project Admin – Tagga – and his Project Team – Techno Architech & The Don – for their timely help and advice on the projects archive of the site. Without their contribution, our database would not have achieved such size and diversity. We also owe a special thanks to our Community Admin – Alam – and his Community Team – Nauman & Lahori Paa Jee – for arranging the affairs of our online community efficiently.
Finally, we would like to congratulate all the team members, Admins and our Management for making this event possible. It has taken the dedication and help of a lot of people, both members and non-members, that have contributed and who do keep on contributing, to keep this forum in the good shape it is in. We would like for all our members to keep a very healthy and positive spirit in the best interest of our homeland, Pakistan. It seems easy to sometimes loose emotional control over minor issues in disagreement, but it is important not to loose sight of our aim at this forum – to promote the soft image of Pakistan worldwide over the internet. Thank you for your time and support.
The Team.
