Madurai, Jan 12: An advocate here has filed a criminal complaint against former Miss Universe and actress Sushmita Sen for her reported remarks on chastity.
Admitting the petition today, Magistrate R Chandrasekharan posted the case for further hearing on February 23.
Complainant S Greesh Kumar sought action against the actress for her remarks during an interview telecast on all prominent TV channels on November 6 last year and published in a Tamil daily the next day.
Her remarks that "chastity has no meaning in the current period and it applies to both men and women" was sweeping in nature, and directed towards all Indians, Kumar alleged.
The actress had given the interview knowing fully well that her opinions and statements would be published, he contended.
"Coming as it does from a person of universal appeal and a celebrity, it would have an impact on the young society. Hence such remarks are illegal, unfortunate, and liable to be dealt with as per law," he said, seeking action against the actress under the Indian Penal Code and Indecent Representation of Women Act.
