i got sum info abt this...
this is the tunnel/bridge linking copenhagen in denmark to malmo in sweden.
they had to do this to allow for big ships to pass through to sweden, finland and russia from the north sea/atlantic ocean which they can't do with a bridge only and possible only with a tunnel.
it's cheaper to build a bridge than a tunnel, so by building half bridge and half tunnel, it's cheaper than building a tunnel the entire length....the big ships can still pass through over the tunnel part.
