Born into a world of pain
Harsh and brittle reality
Cuts you like a child
Eats you up
Swallows you
And spits you out on the other side
A world where nothing is what it seems
All the wonders
Met with equal terrors
A world where hell is right in front of you
As is heaven too
And moonlight is your only ally
Casts shadows on your demons
Always keeping them in sight
Never letting you forget
Because nothing is what it seems
And things always change
Leaving you all alone
Confused and oblivious
But you struggle ahead
Knowing it’s all worth it in the end
With every horror you see
Encounters an angel on the other side
Isn’t that what it’s all about?

It will not hurt me when I am old,
A running tide where moonlight burned
Will not sting me like silver snakes;
The years will make me sad and cold,
It is the happy heart that breaks.
The heart asks more than life can give,
When that is learned, then all is learned;
The waves break fold on jewelled fold,
But beauty itself is fugitive,
It will not hurt me when I am old.

Moonlight crawls through the open window
to touch my body on the bed
tentative and slippery silver
like a thief stalking love
First it strokes my arm, reassures.
Then it rises, glistening on a tear-stained cheek.
Finally it rests on gold-wheat hair,
forms a halo and I become child-like.
With the aid of several pills, I'll be beyond its kiss soon.
Mannequin arm clutches a life-size pillow.
But no sterile stuffing can compensate
for the weight that is gone.
His picture smiles still on the bedside table,
closets crowd his boots and belts
man smell stains the blankets, the air,
the house reeks of him.
He built it brick by brick
his laughter once raised this roof
his tears took days to dry.
Now just the bricks remain.
Day by day I have to figure out how I fit here now.
If I can walk again in daylight
or will I slip silent as the moon,
stealing death from night
a wraith of light and shadow
cooling with the life of dawn.

Pure innocence now left behind,
his haunting eyes cause chilling spine.
Sadness protrudes beyond the scope,
destroys the chance of future hope.
He will not give but always take,
nor will he give for goodness sake.
A heart breaker he shall become,
unattached and feeling numb.
A mother's love denied deep within,
too busy with her life of sin.
At night he felt the loneliness,
missing a mother's warm caress.
You will not see, he hides it well,
his hurtfulness you can not tell.
The years will pass, the pain will grow,
to give his love, he will not know.
Beware the eyes, that do not speak,
for hurtfulness they will beseech.
He seeks pleasure among your pain,
these pools of black are his domain.
