KOHAT CANTT: A bomb blast in a mosque of Pathan Lines in Kohat Cantt killed 17, including three children and wounded more than 16 persons on Thursday night.
According to sources, Isha Prayer (the late night prayer) was underway; when the people bowed down to perform rokou of second rakat, a bomb blast occurred killing 14 people on the spot, while three injured succumbed to injuries and died later at hospital.
According to DG ISPR, 11 military personnel are also included among the deceased.
Immediately after the explosion, security personnel have cordoned the affected area and the high officials of police and security agencies rushed there.
The blast was so powerful that the heads of three persons were flung on to the rooftop of building abutting the mosque; one head is believed to be of the alleged suicide bomber. Soon after the blast, the spot was scattered with body parts of the deceased.
DG-ISPR said there are clues signaling that it might be a suicide attack, adding the investigation is underway.
Interior minister Aftab Sherpao said that it looks like a suicide attack but nothing can absolutely be said in this regard.
Subedar Maj Jahangir Satti, Abdul Ghafoor, Hawaldar Munawwar Din, Hawaldar Mohammed Hussain, Mohammed Shareef, Mohammed Yasir, Irshad, Zahid, Mohammed Junaid, Mohammed Rashid, two young sons of Hawaldar Zahir, and son of Subedar Maj Khalid have been confirmed dead.
The injured includes the Imam of the mosque Shafeequr Rehman.
The blast was so loud that the people in adjacent building fell unconscious; they have been shifted to hospital for medical treatment
