How can I be Dawood’s rival? I have broken all relations with him after my father’s death,” Aslam Bhatti, an alleged gold and drugs smuggler from Pakistan, based in Dubai, told MiD DAY.

Bhatti, who has financed and acted in the film Godfather, The Legend Continues, claims to be a hotelier — a partner in Hotel Ramada Inn in Dubai.

He said he cut all ties with Dawood after the death of his father Yakub, a notorious gold smuggler.

“After my father’s death 12 years ago, I broke all relations with Dawood and his gang. I swore upon the Quran not to keep any relations with anyone and stayed back in Dubai. Dawood apne duniya mein chala gaya. Naa unlogon ne koi relation rakha, naa kabhi mein ne. Toh dushmani kaise hogi?” questions Bhatti.

He adds, “When in Dubai, my father Yakub had good relations with Dawood, Karim Lala and Haji Mastan. It was then that I got to know the don. I was around 18 and we used to spend time together and watch cricket matches in Sharjah.”

Bhatti is alleged to have closely associated with Shakeel, Anees and Dawood while supplying narcotics in Dubai, Karachi and India.

He was first noticed by the Indian intelligence agencies in 2000.
“My father was strictly against drugs. Hamaare Quran mein yeh sab paap hain. We will never indulge in it,” he said.

Bhatti also put to rest allegations about providing local logistical support and shooters to eliminate Chhota Rajan in Bangkok. “This is absolutely absurd, why should I get involved in such immoral activities?”

Bhatti claims he has been living in Dubai for 35 years. “After 20 years, I visited Pakistan for a week, where the film Godfather was being shot. Since childhood I wanted to make films and act. The film, Godfather The Legend Continues, is the first Indo-Pak film directed by Hriday Shetty.”

The film has a huge star cast from India, Pakistan, Bulgaria and Dubai. Bhatti is playing a negative role in the film and has been given the look of a don.

The film stars Vinod Khanna, Arbaaz Khan, Hrish*ta Bhatt, Nafisa Ali, Preeti Jhangiani, Amrita Arora. Kim Sharma has done an item number in the film.

Stalwarts from Pakistan like Shafquat Chima, Ajab Gul and Mehmood Akhtar represent the Pakistani film industry.

Director Shetty said he was unaware of any controversy. “I was there in the capacity of a director. Every filmmaker has a dream to make an Indo-Pak film and I was lucky to get this opportunity,” Shetty said.
