'Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi'

The wait is over. Eight years after he last directed a film, Aditya Chopra is back helming a Yash Raj Films production. Even as his directorial debut DILWALE DULHANIA LE JAYENGE continues its record breaking run in its 13th year, Aditya is ready to direct his third film.

After directing his second film, MOHABBATEIN, back in 2000, Aditya had taken a conscious break from direction to set up and develop India's first studio model making Yash Raj Films a name to reckon with. In the years that followed, YRF, under the keen eye of Aditya, produced such blockbusters as DHOOM, DHOOM 2, HUM TUM, BUNTY AUR BABLI, SALAAM NAMASTE, FANAA and CHAK DE INDIA. While Aditya was the creative producer in all these films, he also kept up with his creative juices by writing his father Yash Chopra's directorial venture VEER-ZAARA in 2004, as well as the stories of other films.

Aditya's third directorial venture will be titled RAB NE BANA DI JODI and will star the formidable Shah Rukh Khan... indeed the jodi of Adi and SRK will once again be a treat for film audiences the world over.

Aditya will introduce a new girl opposite King Khan in RAB NE BANA DI JODI. The hunt for a new girl is currently in progress.

The film, to be produced by Yash Chopra, will be written and directed by Aditya Chopra. Shooting for the film will commence in May and RAB NE BANA DI JODI will release by the end of 2008.

Shah Rukh’s ‘Rab Ne…’ revolves around a reality dance show.

Mumbai, Nov 09: The story line of Shah Rukh Khan starrer ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’ was a closely guarded secret of sorts, but now the much kept clandestine is out of the closet!

According to reports, the plot of ‘Rab Ne…’ revolves around a dance reality show called ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’, where Shah Rukh and newcomer Anushka play a married couple having huge age gap between them. Their marriage is not going great guns due to personality differences and it seems more of a compromise. SRK’s screen wife Anushka wants to take part in a reality dance show but she’s unsure as her husband is old and not the contemporary man with whom she would want to go out with and scared of the fact that her lousy husband might be a catalyst in the couple becoming a laughing stock in the society.

Then happens the twist, SRK gets to know of his wife’s woes decides to go in for an image makeover. He then watches some movies and changes his image completely and comes back to woo Anushka off her feet and then they fall in love all over again.

Hmm… that is surely an interesting plot and with SRK at his romantic best as usual, this one promises to be a real entertainer!

RAB NE BANA DI JODI promo impresses

The much awaited song promo of Aditya Chopra’s Shah Rukh Khan starrer, RAB NE BANA DI JODI, made a high profile appearance on Sunday, across all leading channels, to coincide with the superstar’s birthday. And what a song and what a promo!

The teaser kickstarts with SRK in his common man look taking a bath under a tap, followed by his self cooked bread and butter breakfast, and not to mention that he even washes the plates! All the while, the superb harmonium rhythm accompanies the proceedings and finally the superlative number, ‘Haule Haule’ unfolds. The Sukhwinder–SRK magic is palpable once again. This is one number that we promise; even Shah Rukh Khan’s adversaries will fall in love with! The simple melody is absolutely bewitching and the song takes the listeners in its grips, ‘haule haule’ (slowly). Yes, that’s the beauty of the number. Initially, it does strike as just another sweet love song but slowly and surely it captures the heart! Jaideep Sahni as the lyricist strikes an instant cord with his simple but meaningful lyrics– “Haule haule se hawa lagti hai, Haule haule se dawa lagti hai, Haule haule se dua lagti hai, Haule haule chanda badhta hai, Haule haule ghoonghat uthta hai, Haule haule se nasha chadhta hai!”

The debutant Anushka Sharma looking pretty in her usual simple ’salwar–suit’, makes a brief appearance on a rickshaw. And she is there as the mesmerizing song ends which shows her applying colour (’gulal’) to the bespectacled and moustached Shah Rukh Khan.

As the saying goes, well begun is half done! The RNBDJ song promo has received unanimous praise from all sections of the trade as well as the general paying public. So, with such a beautiful number first up we await even more eagerly for the launch of its much anticipated music album on 6th November.

Adi Chopra holds private sreening for Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi

------------------------------------------------------------ --------------------

Adi Chopra holds private screening for Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi

There was a private screening of Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi at Yash Raj Studios on Sunday evening (November 23).

Our source tells us, "The private screening was attended by SRK, wife Gauri, kids Suhana and Aryan, Karan Johar, Aditya Chopra, Yash Chopra and debutante Anushka Sharma. All of them really liked the film. YRF has had plenty of flops this year so they wanted to check if Rab Ne… had turned out well or not."

He further adds, "Rab Ne… has superhit written all over it. Like last year, Chak de India starring SRK was YRF's only hit, Rab Ne… will do the same for Yash Raj this year as SRK has come to their rescue. The movie is quite funny and has some spectacular dance sequences.”

“In one of them SRK is imitating old actors like Rajesh Khanna and Shammi Kapoor, etc. It is a simple sweet love story shot mainly in India. Anushka has made a good debut and she is a good dancer.”

Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi is the story of a middle class guy, Surinder Sahni, played by Khan who is much older than his wife played by newbie Anushka Sharma. The two have no romance in their lives though Surinder truly loves his wife. All her friends are taking part in a dance competition and she doesn't want to because she feels her hubby cant dance. Surinder understands this and transforms himself to become the guy of her dreams, without her knowing about it. She falls in love with her husband all over again.

SRK has a soft corner for this movie. "This film is Yashji and Adi's love. You know I don't believe in saying a movie is special but in this case it is because Adi is directing after so many years. It is a commercial film that everyone will love. I have seen the film a couple of times and I think it is a very nice, funny, interesting and entertaining film. Adi is making a film after years… It's the story of a normal person. I am sometimes Raj or Rahul or Om before people but here is a character of a very simple person. This is very different to that. I want every girl, every girlfriend, and every wife to look at their loved one and say that this is how I love him. And it's very different from what I have done till today as Raj or Rahul. You know talking about this film makes me smile always," smiles the superstar.

Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi hits theatres on December 12.

Spooked industry opts for silent releases
8 Dec 2008, 0201 hrs IST, Bharati Dubey, TNN
Times of India

MUMBAI: The slowdown in the Bollywood industry is evident in more than just empty theatre seats. One of the most visible impacts is the sombre
mood amongst those who market and promote movies.

Though December is the biggest month for Bollywood this year in terms of star-cast films and the sheer amount of money riding on them, the noise levels for the movies have gone down considerably. One of the major sufferers could be the biggest release of the year, ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi', a Yash Raj film that marks the return of the Shah Rukh Khan-Aditya Chopra combine. The Rs 30 to 35 crore film, which was anyway inexplicably low on the buzz factor, will now have a quiet release on December 12. Marketing for the four films that released on Friday was also uncharacteristically low.

On December 24, the Aamir Khan-starrer ‘Ghajini' is slated to release as also an animation film, `Jumbo', for which Akshay Kumar has lent his voice.

An industry observer said, "The mood of the people, including the stars like SRK and Aamir, is low because of the terror attacks. ‘Rab Ne...' is one of the biggest films of the year and was expected to take in a huge initial amount, but it looks like the film will have a silent release. ‘Ghajini' is slated to release two weeks later and a lot of marketing activities were planned from the first week of December onwards, but Aamir has called them off because of the mood being destroyed by the terror attacks.

"A lot of money is riding on these films and at one time they seemed like the perfect antidote to recession. It's very important that they do well at the box office.''

Why ´Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi´ Will Rock The Box-Office!
Planet Bollywood Special Correspondant

The public as well as the trade is discussing whether Aditya Chopra is doing the right thing by releasing his 'Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi' on 12th December. With the scars of the terrorist attacks on Bombay city on 26th, 27th and 28th November still fresh, there is divided opinion on the release schedule. While some feel, Aditya should go ahead with the release next week, there are others who feel, he ought to postpone the films as the audience, not just in Bombay, but all over the country, is still not fully in a mood to visit the cinemas.

However, India's top trade expert feels otherwise and says, " Aditya Chopra should not change the release date." Elaborating on the reasons he goes on , "Although the worst terror attack has left the country shell-shocked and its people will take months, maybe years, to recover from the trauma, it must be said that a fortnight’s gap between the time the attacks ended and the film’s release is not less for a big film like 'Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi'. Secondly, the film may actually witness one of the greatest openings, not just because the trailers and the songs of the film are being spoken of in highly laudatory terms but also because the public, tired and depressed after watching news of the attacks and their aftermath on television screens, is actually waiting for a true entertainer to divert its mind. Thirdly, Shah Rukh Khan is coming to the cinemas after 13 months (his last release was 'Om Shanti Om' which had hit the screens on 9th November last year). Fourthly, Aditya Chopra, who has a cent per cent track record, has directed a film after eight years (his last film, 'Mohabbatein', was released on 27th October 2000)."So let’s just keep our fingers crossed for peace to return to the nation and the box-office!
