Why stay when tide is rushing in,
drowning as my tears ebb and flow.
Hard to forget love that had been,
mere shell as emptiness grows.

Came without warning mid the night,
your distant voice saying goodbye,
Far away land perilous fight,
happiness we had to deny.

To give and take back was not fair,
our love affair had just begun.
So many nights this pain I bear,
goodbye has now left me undone.

Lost in a vastness of loneliness,
all hope now washed out to sea.
Gone, my last chance for happiness,
rolling in are painful memories.

You could not stay, I understood,
but thought you would always care.
