Queen Marie of Romania

Turbulent and sad history. Queen Marie of Romania deserved much more. Writers and historians are never allowed to express freely.

Sadly her efforts to unite the worlds clashed with the clergy and the elitist. My feeling is Islam played a greater role in her life. Had it not been fears from this quarter, she might have been known as one of the greatest queens of that era.

When she agreed to the arranged marriage with Prince Ferdinand Hohenzollern, future King of Romania, Princess Marie has an adventurous adolescence during which she cultivated her inclinations for travel, contemplation and art.
Her love for travel and the love for the sea were inherited from her father, Alfred Duke of Edinburgh, a sailor of profession. As a child Marie saw Malta, Crete, Rhodes and Egypt, together with a captain sailor much older than her, an aspect which did not impede her falling in love with him. Her education though, was received from her mother, Maria Alexandrovna, daughter of Czar Alexander II. From her she inherited her taste for painting, poetry and music.
Marie had a decisive role in the cultural destiny of Balcic. She loved literature and philosophy and aided with tuitions and money many of the personalities of the literary and artistic world. She wrote children stories and poetry, she painted in water color, generally flowers, especially lilies and poppies.

The Botanic Garden of Balchik lies in the heart of the town, which in turn is situated 31km north of Varna in a beatiful inlet.

History and General Info: Struck by the natural beauty of the area around Balchik, the Romanian Queen Maria built a summer palace and a botanical garden there. This happened 8 years after the end of World War I in 1918, when Balchik was annexed to the territory of Romania. Besides the high-towered palace and the surrounding garden, the complex also includes a chapel, which still keeps the heart of the queen after her will, a villa, originally meant to host Romanian aristocrats, and a beatiful stone throne under an old tree where Queen Maria loved to watch the sunset.
The picturesque park, called Tenha Vuva in Romanian (Quiet Nest), was designed and arranged in 1924-1936 after the project of a French garden designer, Jules Janine. The queen, nicknamed poetically as Karmen Silva, died in 1938, just 2 years before the area was annexed back to the territory of Bulgaria while the complex was declared a monument of culture.
The complex combines old Bulgarian, Moldavian, Mauritanian and Oriental styles in a marvelous way. The park itself is an imitation of the Famous Cretan labyrinth, with each stone of the church being brought from the very

She was a princess. Became a real Queen, a poet and a very good writer. The Queen that is presented by the creation of this garden one can only admire.
For most visitors to the gardens it’s a magnificent place, Its much more.
The very concept is a very large part of her life, one has to study it for some time, in order to get some idea as to what she had intended to achieve.
Religion, throughout the centuries has been miss used by the leaders/politicians, more so now as I write this.
Queen Marie of Romania used religions to unite people.
Her marriage was not an issue that would have made many headlines into the, history books.
But her love for a young Captain was very much the focus and possibily the reason many historians have decided not to write about some stages of Queen Marie`s life.
It is this aspect that intrigues myself and hopefully you guys here at JB, I have been searching for more work on her from independent reliable sources .
Who was that Young (had to be very handsome) sea Captain ?
And why very little is known about this captain who captivated Queen Maries heart?
Did he live to tell ?
My research into this fascinating personality goes on, I will update when ever possible.
The photographs here will tell more than I can in words.

This building what might have been a mosque is described as a part of the palace complex.

It is beautiully placed, right next to the beach, I am certain at the time access to the public was not available.
It is here she would sit and watch the sunset
And await for her love, the Sea Captain
