I thought we could not be just friends,
when our love affair had to end.
We made the best of a bad situation,
as we both had other obligations.
The hurt was deep for both to bear,
try as we may to not show we care.
Too many tears as I cried and wept,
when our promises could not be kept.
Nights were lonely the past few years,
dark lonely nights filled with tears.
But with our faith and understanding,
forever friendship kept expanding.
Sometimes we gave into temptations,
both forgetting our own set limitations.
Now only friends we have become,
though within hearts feelings hum.
So deep within is love of yesterday,
still thought about on cool rainy days.
Love tucked away hidden from sight,
as we follow God's path and holy light.
