An estimated 1,000,000 refugees have been displaced from their homes as fighting in the Swat Valley between government forces and militants intensifies. As the refugees are pouring in, Muslim Hands camps are being established in Shaikh Yaseen and Shahzad Towns in Mardan to address the immediate needs of the thousands of internally displaced people.

The long-term and established presence of Muslim Hands in the region facilitated the timely set-up of feeding centres when the crisis unfolded during April. More than 1050 displaced families have been provided with food in the Khungi Camp in Timargarah and further aid teams have been mobilised in Swabi, Mardan and Jalozai. With each campsite currently providing shelter to 2500 children, Muslim Hands is focusing on healthcare and food distribution. Our teams on the ground have drawn in resources from other parts of Pakistan to be redeployed in the refugee camps. These include ambulances, makeshift clinics as well as doctors from Islamabad to treat the sick and injured on site.

An additional half a million people from Swat, Buner and Dir are fleeing their homes and will need food, shelter and water. With the violence intensifying, the flow of refugees is expected to increase in the coming weeks.

The refugee crisis continues in historic proportions. With your help, Muslim Hands will provide water, medical care and temporary schooling to the displaced communities who have fled their homes in fear for their lives. There is no end in sight to the violence.

Act now to save lives.
