Urban Flavas 2 doesn't really need an introduction, after the unprecedented success of the first album . In this case its 11 tracks of mainly upbeat tracks with the tendency leaning towards bass rather than dhol.
The albums gets straight in with "Gora Gora Rang" it starts off with a little lyric with a female vocal, if that isn't rare enough it goes on further with a bit of MC'ing that actually is connected to the punjabi lyrics! As for the music it is perfectly aligned with the vocals, which are clear and themed to be easily understood which is always a bonus,a real nice track indeed ,If you wouldn't dance to this one, then maybe buying the disc was a bad idea !
The second "Shera Di Korm" which is a real kind of jangli party starter for all you Punjabi's out there. We shall ignore the preamble, which precedes the track, this one is kind of influenced by the Putt Sardara De and which but we've had quite enough of that now. The music is not as much desi but as far as the lyrics are concerned ,they are desi as they can be ,so fer the final comment there's nothing to complain about this track .
Number three is the return of a favourite of everyones "Nachna" aka Tigerstyle's "Nachna Onda Nein" . this one sure gonna get you in the mood,Credit to the boys for trying to change it and make the music their own rather than the Billy Jean Version Tigerstyle . if u haven't heard the orignal one then all i can say is that this one has all the ingridents bass, nice music, good lyrics and a little x-tra desi touch
Next is "Billo" Very much a dance floor track, especially with the almost continuous bass throughout. However, jus want to give a quick mention to MC Lightnin who overshadows the quite bland G.I. Jatt, his lyrics are refreshing and amusing but almost just an above average track .
"Khushian" breaks the trend of good music in the album due to the fact the music isn't really spectacular, it very understated and could have easily been made better if slightly more production time had been taken out, one to skip if you ask me…
Back to form with "Aja Ni Aja" well lyrically maybe but certainly not with the music, its copied from … sorry let me rephrase that and use the technical term, its SAMPLED from a track by a group called Gorillaz. The music is slow and doesnt gives you THE energetic feeling so as a has whole this track is just another pujnabi gaana !
The case is the total opposite in "Taakre" in which the vocals are rather below average a fact, which isn't exactly helped by the fact that they are drowned out by the music to an extent. Its not really a bad thing as the music is strong and powerful and has a good feel to it ,with some constant bang! bang! going on in the back ! as for the lyrics they are some like RDB's " muqabla "
It gets hot in here with "Boliyan" it's a fun track which is the best I can say about it. You're not exactly gonna blast this in da house. This track is purely for all the desi street racers and if you are not, you will probably listen to it once then condemn it forever to be bypassed.
Next is a nice track called "Meray Dilbur" This girl has a fantastic voice and without a doubt single headedly makes this track, ok, with a little help from some quality lyrics and some one named " kocky K ". The music captures the mood perfectly, being subtle and soulful, not that it needs to be any more than that with enchanting vocals like this. its actually kind of slow a one but nicely done.
"Dil Khush Karday" The music works very hard in this track to compensate from the boring and metronomic vocals and lyrics. Again, a waste of perfectly good music, can't believe someone actually listened to this when it was finished and thought it was good. so not quiete recomemded !
It seems with "Laree Naal" and the previous track is that in order to fill the album up a bit, they hacked into the computer of a deaf DJ and took these tracks out of his recycle bin. if someone can convince me that the last tracks in this album are good, then I will try and organise a prize for him.
So...First let me congratulate the guys for giving us value for money compared to a lot of albums out these days, 11 tracks, well done. Overall the album is very good, perhaps a bit more modern in terms of music as the title suggests than your average album but that's what I like about it. Apart from the few album fillers where they got lazy, it's very good. Overall I'd give it 7 out of 10.
Final comment : Go buy the disc if u havent done Yet ! ..... ( Ðj guru )
