well I added a hard drive and then it said fat32 errors and a lot more and the I took it out and replaced the leads they were before and then the conflict I/O port 378 message starting appearing. by jumper settings do u mean the leads form motherboard to hard drive? how are they set?

378 is port of Printer..
so you have a conflict on the lpt 2 printer port. go to the cmos setup/ normally press del when the computer starts/ and just change the printerport setting to something else or for time being just disable it /if you dont use printer or any other type device from the printerport you can leave it disabled...

thank you everyone that problem with the i/o ports is sorted i had to change the port number on cmos and now its no conflict and its found it thanks again
but theres one problem with it when it loads up it start playing a tone from within the computer which it obviously shouldn't do and no wit doesn't even load windows any ideas? i've tried reinstalling windows then it loads about twice with the tone playing and then its stop loadng win98
