ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Nov 12 (PNS) - Three huge football stadiums will be built around the country as part of all-pervasive efforts to develop the world's no.1 sport in Pakistan also.
"The President has assured to provide full assistance for constructing these stadiums and also other facilities for the promotion of football", the Federal Interior Minister, Makhdoom Faisal Saleh Hayat, said in an informal chat with sports scribes on Tuesday.
"The new stadiums will be built at Layari in Karachi, Quetta and Peshawar and will be part of renewed efforts to promote this game", said the Minister who is also the President of Pakistan Football Federation.
He said he had met the chiefs of World Football Federation (FIFA) and Asian Football Confederation (AFC) at Doha (Qatar) recently and the two men had assured full support to PFF.
"We will have two-three football coaches soon to train our senior and junior teams", Makhdoom Faisal said. "We will also start a league system on the pattern of Europe and South America as part of newly-elected PFF's efforts to promote football.
He said the previous PFF management's negligence had resulted in Pakistan being left out of FIFA's "Vision Asia" programme but that "we are making efforts to make amends".
He said a full-fledged PFF office is now functioning at the football stadium adjacent to Qaddafi Stadium in Lahore and PFF is now also focussing attention on giving priority to areas where football is more popular.
Makhdoom said AFC chief will be due in Pakistan in January for the ground- breaking of FIFA's "goal-project" in Lahore and "we will further discuss with him the issue of contract of some football coaches with us and other promotional matters".
He said PFF general council will meet next month to take stock of matters such as giving affiliation to bodies like Islamabad Football Association and also to work out modalities of launching the league-system football competitions.
