CLEVELAND -- Asdrubal Cabrera has become the Cleveland Indians best offensive shortstop in more than 60 years. Tashaun Gipson Jaguars Jersey . Cabrera drove in five runs and Jeanmar Gomez won his fifth straight start for Cleveland as the
Indians beat the Chicago White Sox 11-2 on Thursday night to remain in second
place in the AL Central. Cabrera hit a three-run homer and two-run single, tying
his career-high for RBIs and giving him 92 for the season. Thats the most by an
Indians shortstop since Hall of Famer Lou Boudreau drove in 106 on the way to
winning AL MVP honours and leading Cleveland to its last World Series title --
in 1948. "Its remarkable what hes been doing," Indians manager Manny Acta said.
"What a night! This guy has been putting together some really good numbers."
Cabreras seventh-inning homer put Cleveland ahead 8-2 and was his 25th of the
year, one more than the previous club record for a shortstop by Jhonny Peralta
in 2005. "Im excited and pretty happy about that," said Cabrera, who entered
this year with 18 homers in 387 career games. "I dont think too much about
(getting 100 RBIs). Ill just do the best I can and after the season see what
numbers I get." Travis Hafner reached a milestone number, too, singling for his
1,000th career hit, and Kosuke Fukudome added three RBIs as Cleveland moved 1
1-2 games ahead of the White Sox. Hafner, in and out of the lineup due to a
series of injuries the past four seasons, was grateful for the fan ovation after
being replaced by pinch-runner Cord Phelps following his single. "It was a very
special moment," Hafner said. "I never thought about it until somebody said
before the game I had 999. Then I thought about guys getting 3,000 hits. Thats
200 for 15 years, just mind-boggling." Gomez (5-2) gave up one earned run and
four hits over six innings. Since being recalled from Triple-A Columbus on Aug.
30, the right-hander is 5-0 with a 1.80 earned-run average. "Were not handing
out jobs in September, but hes put himself in the mix," Acta said of Gomezs
chances of joining the Indians rotation in 2012. "He threw well." Fukudomes
two-out, two-run single off Philip Humber (9-9) in the fifth inning broke a 2-2
tie. Fukudome drove Humbers second pitch of the game over the wall in right for
his fifth homer. Four pitches later, Jason Kipnis hit his seventh for a 2-0
lead. "I have never had that happen to me, the first two batters of the game
going deep," Humber said. It was the fourth time in Indians history and only the
second time at home that Cleveland opened a game with two homers. Graig Nettles
and Vada Pinson did it on June 19, 1971, at old Cleveland Stadium. An error by
Cabrera at shortstop helped Chicago tie it at 2 in the fifth. With two outs and
runners on first and second, Juan Pierre singled home Alejandro De Aza. Cabrera
took the throw from right fielder Fukudome and threw wildly trying to get
Brent Morel at third. Third baseman Jack Hannahan tracked down the ball and
fired home, but Morel slid in safely with an unearned run. The White Sox almost
caught a break in the bottom half. Humber had retired 14 straight until Hannahan
drew a two-out walk and apparently scored on a slicing drive down the left-field
line by Ezequiel Carrera that looked like an RBI triple. Chicago manager Ozzie
Guillen argued that a fan reached over a railing and touched the ball. The
umpires huddled, agreed, and sent Hannahan back to third, ruling that Carrera
got a ground-rule double. Fukudomes soft line drive to left scored them both
anyway. Humber gave up seven runs and eight hits over six innings. "He made a
couple of bad pitches," Chicago manager Ozzie Guillen said. "He got ahead in the
count and left a couple of balls up and it hurt him. Most of the time he has
been out there he has given us a chance to win." Notes: Chicago won the season
series 11-7. ... White Sox SS Omar Vizquel and Cleveland DH Jim Thome exchanged
the lineup cards -- a first for both former Indians teammates who have a
combined 44 seasons and 5,388 games in the majors. "I hope its not the last time
we see these guys on the same field somewhere," Guillen said. "The next stop for
both is the Hall of Fame, but they can still play." ... The Indians will salute
Thome on Friday for surpassing 600 career homers and his other contributions.
Before Thursdays game, Acta said the 41-year-old Thome would start at DH in
Hafners place Friday. "Even if Hafner hits three homers tonight, Jimmy is
playing," Acta said. "Well, maybe three homers would change my mind." ... The
last time the Indians hit two homers to open a game, Grady Sizemore and
Casey Blake did it in Kansas City on May 23, 2007. ... RHP Justin Masterson
(12-10) will oppose RHP Carl Pavano (8-13) on Friday night when Cleveland opens
a four-game home series against Minnesota. ... The White Sox open a three-game
series at home against Kansas City on Friday with RHP Zach Stewart (2-5) facing
Royals LHP Bruce Chen (11-8). Arrelious Benn Jaguars Jersey . Many think theres a good chance hell be fined and possibly suspended for an altercation

Mo. -- Max Scherzer and the Detroit Tigers won their appeal on a wild play, and
Joe Nathan escaped a ninth-inning jam to hold off the Kansas City Royals 3-2
Saturday and boost their AL Central lead. The Tigers increased their edge to 2
1/2 games over the Royals. Kansas City fell into a tie for the second wild-card
spot with Seattle, which played later at Houston. Detroit, seeking its fourth
straight division title, has won 13 of 18 against the Royals this year,
including eight of nine at Kauffman Stadium. Scherzer (17-5) outpitched
James Shields (14-8). The Royals put two runners on against Nathan, but he
retired Nori Aoki and pinch-hitter Raul Ibanez on grounders for his 33th save in
40 tries. It was 1-all in the sixth when a line drive and a wild throw led to an
appeal toss and a pair of umpire discussions that wound up ruling a Royals
runner had left third base too soon. With Salvador Perez on third and
Eric Hosmer on second with one out, Omar Infante lined out to Detroit second
baseman Ian Kinsler. Trying for a double play, Kinsler threw to shortstop
Eugenio Suarez and the ball sailed into left field. Perez, who had been trying
to get back to third after the catch, reversed course, headed home and appeared
to score the go-ahead run. Scherzer got back on the mound and made an appeal
throw to third, saying that Perez never tagged up. Third base umpire Larry
Vanover called Perez safe, prompting Tigers manager Brad Ausmus to ask for video
review challenge. The umpires checked with the replay booth in New York, and
were told the play was not reviewable. As a replay was displayed on the
videoboard, clearly showing that Perez never tagged up, the umpires gathered
again and reversed their original call. Jason Myers Jaguars Jersey. They ruled Perez out, ending the inning. Pinch-hitter Tyler Collins and Rajai Davis hit RBI
singles in the seventh. Torii Hunter opened the Tigers fourth with his 17th home
run. He also singled in the sixth for his sixth straight multihit game, the
longest streak of his career. Alcides Escobar hit an RBI single in the fifth and
Hosmer singled home a run in the eighth. Jarrod Dyson and Escobar singled with
one out in the ninth. They moved up on Aokis groundout and were stranded on
Ibanezs grounder. Aoki, who was 13 for 16 in the past four games, put down
sacrifice bunts in first and third innings, but the Royals failed to convert
that into a run off Scherzer. TRAINERS ROOM Tigers: RHP Anibal Sanchez, who has
not pitched since Aug. 8 because of a right pectoralis strain, will throw a
simulated game Sunday. ... C Alex Avila remains sidelined with concussion-like
symptoms and has not played since Sunday. Royals: LHP Danny Duffy, who has
missed his past two starts with a sore shoulder, threw a bullpen session in the
ninth inning Friday and is scheduled to rejoin the rotation Tuesday at
Cleveland. Duffys previous start was Sept. 6 at New York, but departed after one
pitch with shoulder pain. UP NEXT Tigers: Sunday starter Rick Porcello is 2-1
with a 2.18 ERA in three starts this season against the Royals, allowing 17 hits
and striking out 16 in 20 1-3 innings. Royals: RHP Jeremy Guthrie gave up eight
runs, six earned, on 10 hits and one walk in 2 2-3 innings, his shortest outing
of the season, in a Sept. 8 start at Detroit. Cheap NFL Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys China Cheap Jerseys From China Cheap NFL Jerseys Authentic Wholesale Jerseys China Cheap NFL Jerseys China NFL Cheap Jerseys Cheap Jersey ' ' '
