not play in the preseason finale after an MRI confirmed Castonzo has a mild
sprain of the medial collateral ligament in his right knee. Castonzo was injured
on the opening series of Saturday nights 27-6 victory over Cleveland and did not
return. Right guard Mike McGlynn did not play Saturday after bruising his knee
during practice last week. Castonzo is listed as day-to-day, and Pagano said
Sunday he hopes both would be ready for the Sept. 8 opener against Oakland. "The
MRI was pretty much negative. It wasnt as bad as anybody anticipated," Pagano
said, discussing Castonzos prognosis during a conference call. "You never want
to lose anybody, and particularly the guy whos protecting the blind side of your
quarterback." Joe Reitz will replace Castonzo in the lineup at Cincinnati. Reitz
started nine games in 2011 and eight last season, all with the Colts, after
being cut by the Ravens in 2010. Protecting Luck was Indys top off-season
priority after yielding 41 sacks and dozens more hits last season. General
manager Ryan Grigson signed right tackle Gosder Cherilus and left guard Donald
Thomas in the first hours of free agency -- an effort to shore up Lucks
protection. Grigson also drafted two offensive linemen, Hugh Thornton and Khaled
Holmes, in the third and fourth rounds, respectively. While Cherilus and Thomas
have been solid, the Colts arent quite sure what they can expect from their
injured rookies. Holmes sprained his right ankle on the fourth day of training
camp and hasnt practiced or played since then. Thornton sprained his right ankle
a few days before training camp opened, returned to practice last week and made
his preseason debut Saturday. "He knocked off a little bit of rust, but he
looked pretty good in there in both the run and the pass game," Pagano said. The
offensive line isnt the only spot where the Colts are hurting. Indys top two
tight ends Dwayne Allen (right foot) and Coby Fleener (right knee) sat out
against Cleveland, and backup receiver Nathan Palmer left late in the game with
a knee injury. Pagano said an MRI confirmed Palmer also has a sprained MCL and
is likely to miss four to six weeks -- a diagnosis that could jeopardize his
ability to make the 53-man active roster. The Colts have already begun the
cut-down process. On Sunday, they waived 11 players and put backup linebacker
Lawrence Sidbury on injured reserve, trimming the 90-man roster to 78. They must
be down to 75 by Tuesday. Sidbury signed on the first day of free agency, a move
aimed at helping special teams and bolstering the defence. But he hurt his
shoulder in last weeks win over the Giants and got a second opinion this past
week. Pagano said Sunday he will get another opinion and likely will have
surgery. The Colts also waived cornerbacks Johnny Adams and Allen Chapman,
offensive linemen Danous Estenor and Rick Schmeig, defensive tackle Kellen
Heard, punter-kicker Brandon McManus, running back Davin Meggett, linebacker
C.O. Prime and safety Ashante Williams. Receiver Maurice Williams was waived
with an injury settlement. Cornerback Teddy Williams was waived-injured and will
revert to Indys injured reserve if he clears waivers.

road game of the season, as they tangle with the Connecticut Huskies in
non-conference action on Sunday afternoon. Texas is a perfect 5-0 this season,
the team having recently whipped visiting Saint Francis-PA last Tuesday, 78-46.
That triumph came on the heels of the Longhorns winning the 2K Classic with
championship-round victories over Iowa (71-57) and California (71-55). This bout
is the first of three tough ones UT will play before starting up Big 12
Conference action on Jan. 3, 2015, as games against No. 1 Kentucky and Stanford
loom over the next several weeks. The defending national champion Huskies opened
the 2014-15 campaign with three straight wins. Unfortunately, the team suffered
its first setback in last Sundays 78-68 final at West Virginia, which happened
to the be the title game of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off. UConns wins have come
against Bryant (66-53), the College of Charleston (65-57) and Dayton (75-64),
but tougher bouts are on the horizon, as in addition to todays tussle, the
Huskies will square off against Duke (Dec. 18) and Florida (Jan. 3, 2015) before
getting into the meat of their American Athletic Conference schedule.
Connecticut owns a 5-2 lead in the all-time series with Texas, which includes an

turned up the hheat in allowing the Red Flash a mere 31 percent success rate on
their field goal attempts, with only 5 of their 21 long-range launches finding
the bottom of the net.

major roles in the lopsided outcome. Isaiah Taylor is one of three double-digit

efforts went for naught as UConn dropped a 10-point decision to West Virginia
last Sunday in Puerto Rico. Kentan Facey chipped in 10 points for the Huskies,
who matched the Mountaineers in field goal shooting (45 percent), but were
outscored at the foul line (16-9), while making good on only 3-of-17 3-point
attempts (.176). A whopping 19 turnovers also cost them a chance at the win.
Boatright has been the teams go-to scorer here in early going, as the senior is
averaging an even 20 ppg in hitting his shots at a 45.5 percent clip. He is also
an 81.3 percent free-throw shooter, having made more than twice as many foul
shots as his closest teammate has even attempted. Hamilton (13.3 ppg) is the
squads only other double-digit scorer at the moment, although Amida Brimah (9.5
ppg) and Rodney Purvis (9.3 ppg) are close to joining the ranks. As a team, the
Huskies are netting 68.5 ppg while allowing 63.0 ppg.
