CINCINNATI, Ohio -- The Cincinnati Reds had a five-game winning streak snapped and that was just the start of the bad news Thursday.
http://www.airmaxbillige.dk/billige-air-max-90/air-max-90-qs.html . Luis Valbuena hit a tiebreaking, two-run triple in the 12th inning and the
Chicago Cubs avoided a rare five-game sweep in Cincinnati with a 6-4 win in 12
innings. The Reds found out during the game that second baseman Brandon Phillips
would be out six weeks after he has surgery on Friday to repair torn ligaments
in his left thumb. He was injured diving for a ground ball Wednesday night and
an MRI on Thursday revealed torn ligaments. Starter Homer Bailey left the game
with a 1-2 count on Starlin Castro leading off the third. It appeared his spike
caught on the mound and he was removed from the game with a strained right
patellar tendon. Then tempers flared on the field with both benches and bullpens
emptying in the ninth but no punches were thrown and there were no ejections. In
the 12th, highly regarded prospect Arismendy Alcantara singled with one out and
went to second on Castros two-out infield single. Valbuena, 0 for 4 with three
strikeouts, sent a ball to deep right field off J.J. Hoover (1-6) that
Skip Schumaker couldnt catch up to and. Valbuena was thrown out at the plate
trying to stretch it into an inside-the-park home run. The out call stood after
an umpire crew chief request for a replay review to make sure the new rule
regarding home plate collisions wasnt violated. Blake Parker (1-0) pitched the
last two innings and the Cubs snapped their losing streak at a season-high six
games. The Reds scored three runs in the first inning off Kyle Hendricks, who
was making his major league debut. Ryan Ludwick hit his sixth home run of the
season in the third inning to give the Reds a 4-1 lead. Baileys wildness
provided the Cubs with enough baserunners to creep back into the game. "Its
baseball so you have these situations over the course of the year. Castro did a
nice job getting the hit in the eighth. You have to acknowledge the fact that
they played a nice ballgame," Reds manager Bryan Price said. "He (Hendricks)
worked around a three-run first inning and really held us down. It wasnt so much
that it got away from us as they went out and outplayed us." Bailey, who hit
Anthony Rizzo in the first inning, grazed Baker with a pitch with one out in the
fifth. One out later, he walked Coghlan. Alcantara doubled, the first of his
four hits, to score both runners. The Reds held the lead until Castro singled
home Alcantara with two outs in the eighth off Jonathan Broxton, who came into
the game with seven straight scoreless appearances. It was just the third run
Broxton has allowed in 31 innings. Aroldis Chapman struck out Ryan Sweeney and
Nate Schierholtz in the ninth to tie Bruce Sutter as the only relief pitcher
since 1900 to strike out at least one batter in 39 straight appearances. Two
pitches to Schierholtz were up and in and Rizzo approached the Reds bench with
angry words for Chapman before the Reds batted in the bottom of the inning.
"There were two pitches that got away from me," Chapman said through interpreter
Tomas Vera. "Their bench started to say something to me and their first baseman
came over to our bench." Alfredo Simon met Rizzo on the field. "There was a lot
of testosterone on the field," Price said. "That is the way baseball is. We hit
Rizzo, certainly unintentional. Cozart got hit in the hand certainly that was
unintentional. Chapman had the ball get away from him up and in and things got a
little testy. Its baseball Were trying to win every game we can as are the Cubs.
I just think it was an overflow of testosterone." Cozart had ice on his left
hand as he spoke to the media. "I knew they would be frustrated. Were
frustrated," Cozart said. "Whether its on purpose or not, no one likes balls
coming at them. My hand is just a little swollen." NOTES: The Reds promoted INF
Kristopher Negron from Triple-A Louisville and optioned RHP Carlos Contreras to
Louisville before the game. RHP Brett Marshall was designated for assignment to
make room for Negron on the 40-man roster. ... Chicago optioned RHP Dallas
Beeler to Triple-A Iowa to make room on the 25-man roster for Hendricks.

1-1 record with a 4.41 earned-run average. He opened the season appearing in 14
games and making 12 starts for the Milwaukee Brewers triple-A affiliate in
Nashville, posting a 4-2 record with a 1.

conversions, and Stuart Hogg added a try in the second half. "The most important
thing to come out of the game is that we did not get scored against," Laidlaw
said.
http://www.airmaxbillige.dk/nike-free/nike-free-3-0-v4.html .J. Fair didnt have many chances to be the main option for Syracuse last
season.DUNEDIN, Fla. - Manager John Gibbons offered a glimpse Sunday of the Blue
Jays much-debated pitching rotation. He helped fill in some of the gaps when he
said the pitching questions remaining are who will be the fifth starter and
whether the team will carry seven or eight in the bullpen. Previously GM Alex
Anthopoulos had talked of two openings left to fill in a starting rotation that
already features R.A. Dickey, Mark Buehrle and Brandon Morrow. A gaggle of
pitchers has been competing for the fourth and fifth sports with J.A. Happ,
Drew Hutchison and Ricky Romero the leading contenders although Happs back
issues had muddied the waters somewhat. Asked Sunday if Happ was the fourth
starter with one position still open, Gibbons replied: "Yeah, Im a big Happ fan.
I think hes going to have a heck of a year for us and all indications the other
day are his backs fine. He threw very well (in a minor league game Friday). That
was a big question. "Now if his back flares up, that might be a different
story." Hutchison is widely believed to have already pitched his way into the
rotation. In three outings this spring, the 23-year-old right-hander has given
up three runs in 9 2-3 innings for an ERA of 2.79. He has struck out 16 and
walked one. "Hes been pitching great," Gibbons acknowledged. "Arguably the best
of anybody in camp." Then he clammed up, returning to his stock response that
the lineup will be announced at the end of the spring. "So keep asking. You aint
getting nothing," he said devilishly. Gibbons confirmed Dickey will pitch first
with left-hander Buehrle third in the rotation. Morrow reportedly will throw
fifth, which would put him on the mound for the home opener April 4 against the
Yankees. The Jays open March 31 with a four-game series in Tampa. The manager
declined comment on Morrow pitching fifth. But he rejected the suggestion that a
veteran was needed to handle the pressure of pitching the homme opener.

"Its a big day but, you know what, if you dont think they can handle that day
they probably shouldnt be there." Gibbons also said he had no issue with
southpaws Buehrle and Happ pitching back-to-back. "Theyre both left-handers but
theyre different type of pitchers," he said. In case a second opinion on the
starting rotation is needed, the Jays asked fans via Twitter on Sunday to offer
their suggestions. "Who do you think should be included in the @BlueJays Opening
Day Pitching Rotation? Send us your 5 pitchers and rank them 1-5," the team
tweeted Sunday on its official account. Gibbons confirmed locks in the bullpen
are Casey Janssen, Sergio Santos, Brett Cecil, Aaron Loup and Steve Delabar.
"Theyre not going anywhere," Gibbons said. "Your other guys will be your middle
and long (relief) guys so were covered with our late-inning go-to guys."
Pitchers Esmil Rogers, Todd Redmond, Jeremy Jeffress and Dustin McGowan are out
of options, meaning the team could lose them if they are sent down. McGowan is
expected to be part of the opening bullpen, despite his desire to be a starter.
"Theres some pretty good pitchers out there that are out of options and you cant
keep them all," said Gibbons. "We also think the guys we cut loose will probably
get grabbed," he added. A seven-man bullpen would give the Jays a four-man
bench. "Thats the risk you take. If you take that extra bullpen guy, youre
shorter on the bench." said Gibbons. "Thats not ideal but it might cover our
rotation a little bit, make the pitching staff that much stronger if we go with
eight." Despite the options complication, Gibbons insisted the team would take
the best 25 players north. Also Sunday, the Jays optioned pitchers Kyle Drabek,
Chad Jenkins and Sean Nolin to triple-A Buffalo. Reliever Neil Wagner was sent
down Friday.
