on Machota, Cowboys beat writer for SportsDayDFW.com and The Dallas Morning News, answered questions about the team in a live
Maurkice Pouncey Authentic Jersey chat Friday. Here are some highlights.
Who will be remembered as the greatest Cowboy of this generation -- Romo or Witten?
Jon Machota: Jason Witten. He's a 10-time Pro Bowler who never misses games and is one of the best tight ends to ever play. Romo has said he thinks Witten might be the greatest Cowboy of all-time. I wouldn't necessarily go that far but he's near the top of the list. I believe Romo will be remembered fondly and both will eventually be in the Ring of Honor, but Witten will also be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
If you had to guess, will there be any draft day trades for the Cowboys?
Jon Machota: My guess is there will be at least one. The Cowboys have been known for their wheeling and dealing during the draft. In recent years they've moved up to get Morris Claiborne and DeMarcus Lawrence and moved back to gain an extra pick before drafting Travis Frederick. Jerry Jones recently said sitting at the 28th spot in the first round "sets up for a little potential trade action to try to gain some value or try to hit an opportunity." The Cowboys currently have seven picks. I believe they'll try to acquire an extra one somehow. I wouldn't be surprised if they make eight selections when everything is said and done.
Is the Richard Sherman speculation a waste of time for Cowboys fans?
Jon Machota: I wouldn't call it a waste of time. Every
Cobi Hamilton Authentic Jersey team should be interested in Richard Sherman if the price is right. He's arguably the best CB in the game. He'd instantly upgrade the Cowboys' defense. But what's the price? I wouldn't be interested in parting with multiple early-round picks. Many believe CB is the deepest position in this class. I think the Cowboys would prefer drafting a couple defensive backs from this class instead of making the significant investment in a 29-year-old Sherman.
Of the Cowboys pre-draft visitors, which do you think are the best fits with Cowboys?
Jon Machota: Kevin King interests me the most of the CBs. If the Cowboys played today, their nickel package would likely be Orlando Scandrick, Anthony Brown and Nolan Carroll. Carroll is the tallest of the group at 6-1. King is 6-3, 200 pounds. Very comparable to Richard Sherman. The receivers keep getting bigger and bigger in the NFL. I like the idea of having a CB with King's size to matchup with them, especially in the redzone. Of the pass rushers, probably T.J. Watt. Being related to a three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year pass rusher should intrigue everyone. Some say T.J. is a better fit in a 3-4 as an outside linebacker. Others say he can play DE in a 4-3 scheme. If they believe he can be a 4-3 end, he'd interest me greatly.
Who is the top corner, safety and defensive lineman for
http://www.coltsshopauthentic.com/shop-by-players-19-johnny-unitas-jersey-c-1_9.html the Cowboys to target in the first round?
Jon Machota: Of the corners that could be there at 28, I like Kevin King the most. I wouldn't take any of the safeties that will likely be there at 28. Of the defensive linemen: Taco Charlton and Charles Harris would probably top my list.
What was Romo like in the locker room?
Jon Machota: He wasn't in there much during media availability. Some guys have more small talk with reporters than others. There wasn't much of that with him. I always felt like he worked hard at not giving much away. He did his weekly interview and often took part in the conference call with opposing reporters. On days he wasn't scheduled to talk, he was rarely around. Now, the locker room availability represents a small
