Michigan center Moe Wagner  announced Monday that he’s entering the NBA draft without an agent. But he says it’s more of a feeling-out process than a commitment.
“It doesn’t really mean a lot, other than just saying I look into being drafted and tell teams your name is out there,” he said on the “Dak and Dunc” podcast with U-M teammates Andrew Dakich and Duncan Robinson. Anthony RendonYouth Jersey “Other than that, it doesn’t mean anything. For two years now, there’s this rule that you can pull your name back out.”
College players may enter the draft combine (May 9-14) but still  withdraw from the draft until May 24. That date is “in my calendar,” Wagner said.
“From my perspective, in college, you only have 30 games, you only play against 20-25 teams a year,” http://www.officialnationalstore.com/Anthony_Rendon_Jersey Wagner said. “You don’t get a chance to compete with all of the players. The combine and workouts are, I think, a great opportunity to compete on a very high level."
U-M submitted his name to the NBA undergraduate advisory committee for feedback, along with teammates D.J. Wilson (who has declared without hiring an agent), Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman and Robinson.
Wagner said he got the results of his evaluation while sitting in a conference room with U-M coach John Beilein and assistant coach Billy Donlon on Sunday.
“It’s pretty interesting; it’s a business, dude,” he said. “You have those certain ranges, and they’re going to tell you where you’re expected to be to get picked. I don’t want to go into this too deep.”
Media analysts have projected him as high as a first-round pick.
ESPN's Chad Ford wrote: “He had an up-and-down sophomore year, but he ticks a lot of boxes for NBA scouts. He's a fluid athlete who can really shoot the ball. Al Montoya Youth Jersey He also has playmaking abilities and shows toughness in the paint. Plus, he's still only 19 years old. He'll likely go somewhere between Nos. 18-25 if he stays in the draft.”
Wagner and Wilson met again with the coaching staff Monday to finalize their decisions to explore the draft.
“Yeah, it’s definitely interesting, the feedback,” Wagner said. “Just sit in the room and see somebody talking about your draft stock. http://www.officialcanadiensauthentic.com/Al_Montoya_Jersey I think, one year ago, and I was sitting at the same table talking about how I’m going to be on the court in college basketball and now I’m in this situation which I’m very grateful for and it’s a lot of fun, obviously, going through the process. Very happy.”
Wagner’s plan is to finish the winter semester — at the U-M scholar-athlete banquet Monday night, he spoke about the importance of an upcoming statistics exam — and then go back to Germany for more than a week at the end of April. Then he’ll return and continue to train at Michigan with strength coach Jon Sanderson and take a class during the spring semester.
In June, he’s scheduled to go back to Germany to participate with the national team.
One thing that hasn’t come up, though, is interest from German professional teams.
“I haven’t even thought about (Germany),” he said. “I think that’s usual, but I’ve made it very clear I want to stay in college as long as possible.”
He added: “I’ve said I really enjoy my life here, my time in Michigan.”
Wagner and Wilson went from playing fewer than nine minutes per game in 2015-16 to averaging double digits in points this season.
“My confidence level just increased a lot over the last summer, just being here (with) Sandman a lot, working on my game,” Wagner said. “That gave me a huge confidence boost that helped me this year. I had different mind-set going into the season. As a freshman, you come into college … you come in and you’re just trying to figure out how to survive. All of the sudden, you’ve got to spend a lot of money, you’re not at home anymore and your mom’s not cooking your meals anymore. You’re supposed to play your best basketball, and I wasn’t able to do that. The second year, it’s a lot different. I think that’s a factor, as well.”
