LAHORE: The city’s youngsters turned up in droves for a wild Ali Zafar concert at the Pearl Continental on a cool Sunday evening.

Students from the Lahore Grammar School, Kinnaird College, Beaconhouse Informatics, National College of Arts and others from all over town packed under a white canopy with blue-green laser lights flashing and people dancing with excitement. Several in the audience had come from outside Lahore just to see the concert. Many people were trying to negotiate entry to the event even as the venue filled to capacity.

Mr Zafar was welcomed on stage by the screams of hundreds of girls and boys. He began with his song Jugnoo Se, a down-tempo song that built the mood. The more upbeat Hooka Pani flowed, and the audience got off their feet to dance to the funky beat.

The young singer took a short break to change his shirt, and then launched into his hit single Channo. The crowd went wild. Girls started trying to climb on stage to get a piece of the young singer. The more restrained just screamed.

The rest of the one-hour set were covers of Indian film and Western pop songs, with Mr Zafar accompanied in singing them by the crowd. Towards the end, some boys took off their shirts and danced oblivious to the cold.

The event was sponsored by Daily Times and Subway, and organised by J&S Events.
