on Saturday, June 19 @ 16:23:45 PKT

KARACHI: Big screen actors appearing in television serials, is, no doubt, a rare occurrence but it does happen all the same and now big screen idol, Reema, is to appear on TV to turn her maiden show into a real blockbuster.

‘Yaad To Ayaen Gey’ is the title of the serial, which was previewed on Friday at a local hotel and casts Reema, Sajid Ha**an, Humayun Saeed, Shakeel, Zeba Shahnaz, and Tania Shafi among others.

The play will be aired on Geo TV from June 28, 2004.

The play is a story of a girl’s undiluted love that later turns into hatred seething with revenge. Reema as Mehru falls deeply in love with Humayun Saeed, playing Zaviar who is also her fiancÈ. While Zaviar who belongs to a business background returns to Pakistan after completing his studies along with Taniya Shafi, as Maham, is enticed by his elder brother, Sajid Hasan as Shahwar, in a business deal who also has a fancy for Mehru. When Mehru finds out that Zaviar is getting married to Maham, she experiences a deep shock and resentment. She decides to avenge this slight from her ex-fiancÈ, and marries Shahwar, entering the family in another role. From here starts the triangle of revenge, love and hatred among the three main characters of this emotional saga.

Addressing the media, a joyous and sober Reema dispelled the impression that she did the play only because there was a downfall in the film industry. She requested the media and the government to project a positive image of actors at the local and international market, as, according to her, negativity has overpowered positive criticism. Reema showed her reluctance to be cast in TV plays time and again since she feels that most of the big-screen faces, who decide to master the small screen, have not achieved what they wanted to.

She said Humayun, during the play’s shooting, impressed her that much that she, as a director of her new film, has decided to cast him.

President Geo Imran Aslam, talking to this correspondent, said he hopes the serial will hit the box because the play was recorded twice to achieve the best out of it. He said Geo has every capacity to capture international market, including India, and we have kept a good inventory of dramas and other programmes to be aired in India as soon as it is allowed.

The president said the channel is expanding its network rapidly as the viewers’ demands are on the rise, and the play instead of focusing on cross-border exchanges focused on cross-media exchange.

Play’s director Ahsan Ali Zaidi and producer Ejaz Bajwa expressed their satisfaction over the performance of the actors and hoped that their hard work will bring fruit.

Other actors, including Shakeel, Humayun Saeed and Zeba Shahnaz, felt overjoyed by expressing their thoughts about the play and working with Reema for the first time.
