Aaminah Haq makes acting debut in short film
By Anjum Gill
LAHORE: Famous supermodel Aaminah Haq launched her acting and producing career on Monday with the release of a short film called Satori. The film is aimed at marketing the ABCD designer label owned by co-producer Ammar Belal.
Satori is a silent film based on the theme of revenge, similar to the recent blockbuster Kill Bill directed by Quentin Tarantino. Ms Haq and Mr Belal, speaking at a press conference, explained that the style of the film was similar to many Hong Kong action flicks. “The story supports the philosophy of the yin and yang - the eternal struggle between love and hate. This film is in essence an amalgamation of the influences that defined a genre, a way of life and the basic premise of good and evil coexisting in each one of us,” Mr Belal said.
Kill Bill and the Matrix trilogy also inspired the ABCD Summer Collection 2004. Mr Belal has designed each costume used in the film himself. “Satori takes inspiration from all my favourite martial arts movies. The film is in four segments with distinct colours and symbols to introduce the 2004 collection,” he said. “For instance,” he said, “the Red segment stands for the symbol of love in Chinese and comprises of bold eveningwear marked by the logo of a dragon. The Golden-Yellow segment, symbolising strength, features sportswear denoted by a Thai print of a lion.”
“The Blue segment features water and includes my beachwear collection marked by an intricate Chinese fish motif. The Cream segment stands for longevity and all the basic styles of the collection which are used all year round.”
Ms Haq was optimistic about the experimental film and said it would probably be sold to Geo Television. She also added that for her, “even if ten people appreciate it, my mark is made,” since it was a conceptual film. Satori is directed by Sikandar Mufti and features Aaminah Haq and Naeem Haq in the lead roles. Depilex was in charge of all the arrangements for the movie, and director Mussarat Misbah was present at the film screening
