After Pooja Bhatt premiered PAAP at the Kara Film Fest in Karachi, Pakistan, there's a strong possibility that Shashi Ranjan's DOBARA will now be premiered in the neighbouring country.
The latest development is that Shashi Ranjan's enterprising wife Anu left for Lahore and Islamabad on July 7 to take the idea forward. In Pakistan, Anu is expected to meet I. & B. Minister Sheikh Rashid and Prime Minister Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain.
“We are trying to make a beginning. If we succeed, it will open doors for other film-makers to release their films in Pakistan,” Shashi tells me, “The Pakistani film industry has also been receptive. The producers' a**ociation in Pakistan has requested their government to allow screening of Indian films in the country.”
If at all the Ranjans are successful in their mission of holding a charity premiere, the funds accrued will be donated to a charitable institution in Pakistan.
Incidentally, General Zia-ul-Haque's daughter Zian Zia was in Mumbai for the music launch of DOBARA and is helping Shashi and Anu Ranjan take things forward in Pakistan.
DOBARA is slated for release in India on August 13.
