Before teams carried two goalies, "emergency" netminders were a thing in
the NHL. Every rink had one, available to either side. Lefty Wilson, a
trainer for the Detroit Red Wings, was pressed into duty for them, the
Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins. Lester Patrick, general
manager/coach of the New York Rangers, Duncan Keith Women's Jersey was behind the bench for a playoff game when his goalie, Lorne Chabot,
went down in Montreal. Trusting no stranger, Patrick, 44, donned the
pads. The Rangers went on to win the 1928 Stanley Cup.
The Blackhawks own the best 11th hour goalie saga. Before their Final
opener at Toronto in 1938, stalwart Mike Karakas suffered a broken toe.
Frantic for a replacement, management canvassed the city for a native
rink rat, Alfie Moore. They found him in a saloon, where Moore inquired
about tickets for that night's game. Chicago officials offered a better
view of the action. Moore, somewhat lubricated, ingested copious amounts
of coffee, Jonathan Toews Women's Jersey and yielded a goal on Toronto's first shot, but no more. The Blackhawks
won 3-1, Karakas returned, and they won the Cup. Moore received $300
and a gold watch.
At this stage, at his age, is it too late for Glass to move beyond
half-full? Not necessarily. Goalies are a different species. Johnny
Bower, who passed away last week, was 34 when he finally gained the net
in Toronto. He won four Stanley Cups with the Maple Leafs during the
1960s, two Vezina Trophies, Patrick Kane Women's Jersey retired at 45, earned induction into the Hall of Fame and was voted one of the NHL's 100 greatest players.So, one never knows. For sure, however, Jeff Glass and his frequent flyer miles have become part of Blackhawk lore.
