After the success of Khuda Kay Liye; Mehreen Jabbar's first venture, Ramchand Pakistani is yet another film that is being credited with the revival of Pakistani cinema.
Following an exclusive screening for the Prime Minister of Pakistan in Islamabad, the film premiered in Karachi just days ahead of its August release.
"I am extremely happy today, one of the main reasons being the presence of the entire film's cast which is an exciting factor. Seeing this, I am recollecting the days when the film was shot. The movie has been screened before in Islamabad but that was an extremely formal and official one. Today amongst the presence of the film's cast, theatre personalities, and many old friends, this occasion is even more special. The film has also received an award at the Osian," said Nandita Das.
And it's not just awards that Ramchand Pakistani is winning but also much acclaim.
"Ramchand Pakistani is a brilliant film. The direction by Mehreen Jabbar and performance by Nandita have converted the film into a beautiful venture. Even the child artiste who played Ramchand initially is brilliant. This is a must watch film," said Samina Peerzada, Actress & Director.
"I was eagerly awaiting the release of this film and after watching it I can proudly proclaim that our country has a pool of talented professionals," said Adnan Siddiqi, actor.
"This film has moved me to tears. Everything about this film from the acting to the atmosphere created to the music, each frame is pure magic. I am falling short of words in describing this film," said Badar Khalil, actress.
Despite the great initial feedback for debutant director the real litmus test for her film is public's verdict at the box office.
"Today was the premiere of the film. Now let's see how well this film does at the box office after it is released on the August 1," said Mehreen Jabbar, Director.
If the response the film evoked in Karachi and the film festivals its been screened at is anything to go by Ramchand Pakistani promises to be a big hit.
