Most of us Muslims take The Quran and Ahadith as the two basic pillars of our religion. But do Ahadith really form a pillar of the Muslim faith? If not, then why do a vast majority of Muslims consider it that way?


As we know ... there are 5 pillars of Islam.

1)Tauheed
2)Salaat
3)Fasting in the month of Ramadan
4)Alms giving
5)Pilgrimage

In these, we see Salaat directly concerned with the Holy Quran and Fasting is linked with both. Pilgrimage is a combination of the rest of the four and is thus of very high value.

What we see is the fact that there is no allocated place for Ahadith in the pillars. That thus leads to conclusion that it is not as important as the Holy Quran. But sub-plots are usually essential for the main story.

If the first Kalma (Tauheed) is essential for Muslim to even remain in Islamic perimeter, then there are five other which a Muslim should know or atleast recite them a few times in life.

As far as Ahadith are concerned ... they are the words of the Holy Prophet and there is no direct link to any of the five pillars but as said before, it does act as an sub-plot. The words of Holy Prophet have the sole purpose of guiding Muslims and explaining Quran. Though they are helpful for mankind but most here believe that Ahadith have been fabricated.

If this indeed is the belief than still one fact will remain, and that is to have complete faith, we need learn Quran and if that is not easy then we can take help of Ahadith ... or else a person can live even without it.

So the conclusion can be ... Ahadith are not the pillar of Islam, yet they do have a minor role if building ones faith.
