Both are correct indeed. First try to overcome your difficulties, strive for the good. But if the results are not good and convincing, accept it as the will of God, dont blame Him or go hopeless, and be thankful to Him because He has blessed us with many other blessings.

Allah SWT used the word "Sabr" which doesn't mean patience only (bear the pain without any effort to avert it) but it means steadfastness (to endure hardship but persist with effort to turn it around)
