This bridge retrofit uses the world's largest seismic isolation bearings. The bearings can displace +53 inches while supporting loads of 5 million lbs. The ability of the Friction PendulumTM bearing design to avoid eccentric gravity loads in the truss structure, and the low profile bearing height, saved millions of dollars in retrofit costs, compared to the equivalent rubber bearing design.

Friction PendulumTM seismic isolation of this new building  protects the expansive glass exterior walls and the long span roof trusses.  Use of  Friction PendulumTM   bearings, instead of the equivalent rubber bearings, saved 600 tons of structural steel.  With over 1.2 million sq. ft. of supported space, it is the largest seismically isolated building in the world.
