THE POLITICS OF HUNGER

* The total wealth of the world's 3 richest individuals is greater than the combined GDP of the 48 poorest countries - a quarter of all the world's states.

* In over 70 countries, per capita income is lower today than it was 20 years ago. Almost 3 billion people - half the world's population - live on less than $2 a day.

* Of the 4 billion people living in developing countries, almost
1/3rd have no drinking water.
1/5th of all children receive an insufficient intake of calories or protein.
1/3rd of the human race - 2 billion people - are suffering from anaemia.

* The UN calculates that the whole world population's basic needs (food, drinking water, education, medical care) could be covered by a levy of less than 4% of the wealth of the 225 largest fortunes.
Required.. only $13 billion, hardly as much as the people of the US and the European Union spend each year on perfume.

* Food production was never been the problem. The people who need the food must be able to buy it. And that is precisely the problem. 30 million people a year die of hunger. And 800 million suffer from chronic malnutrition.

Statistics you might have missed... till now

vv funnyy admi jii..

hmmm well here it is..
something vvv boring but TRUE

GOLDEN CRESCENT : AFGHANISTAN the Islamic State

For years, it was the world's largest producer of the opium poppy, the raw material for heroin. However, the country's notoriety exploded in the late 1990s, when the ruling Taliban regime levied taxes on the illicit harvest: a 10% tax on all production and 20% tax on trade. Some reports said authorities even issued receipts.

Afghanistan shipped at least 2,000 metric tons of heroin in 2001. With heroin selling for prices ranging from $50 per kilo to $600 per kilo, that's at least $100 million or as much as $1.2 billion.

It is possible more obvious elements of al Qaeda and Taliban could also be profiting from the heroin trade as well, experts said. Many of the routes used by traffickers to move heroin out of Afghanistan run through Pakistan's tribal belt.

An awful lot of the insanity that was going on in Kashmir was financed out of that heroin flow, because the Pakistani secret service was involved in helping support the flow.

The flow of profits from the heroin trade are not only going to possible 'terrorists', but American allies as well.

Afghanistan's Vice President Haji Abdul Qadir, one of the country's richest men, killed in July 2003, was reported to be a drug baron himself.
The governor of Kandahar province, Gul Agha, who has reportedly received CIA money, and made a number of very public drug interdiction efforts, is also said to have drug ties.
Haji Bashir : a major Taliban money supplier and leading drug kingpin of southern Afghanistan.

AND IF WE START A JIHAD AGAINST THIS ILLIGAL TRADING ?¿
