Mr. Jamali has resigned as Prime Minister

ISLAMABAD, June 26 (Online): Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali on Saturday resigned from his post of premiership.

He tendered his resignation before the President Gen Pervez Musharraf after holding a three-hour long meeting with the President at the President House. The meeting was held on the request of Premier Jamali.

According to official sources, PML President and Parliamentary leader Ch Shujaat Hussain was also present on the occasion.

Prime Minister Jamali on the occasion thanking President Musharraf for posing confidence in him said that due to his personal reasons he could no longer hold the office of the premiership but he would continue working for the party as a worker.

President Musharraf has accepted his resignation, the sources said .

Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali,59, was sworn in as the Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan on 23rd November 2002, after the National a**embly had voted him as Leader of the House.

He becomes the 20th Prime Minister to take office since independence and the first from Balochistan, the province smallest in population, largest in area.


Mr. Jamali's meeting with President

Earlier President General Pervez Musharraf held a crucial meeting with Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali in Army House today (Saturday). The decision came out after this meeting.

The meeting took place after Mr. Jamali requested Musharraf for a parley and managed to get the President's nod on the same, well-placed sources told Online .

Sources further revealed that the two leaders discussed matters including overall political situation in the country, besides discussing law and order and the issue of cabinet expansion.

Political circles have termed Musharraf-Jamali Saturday's parley of extraordinary import in view of prevailing uncertain situation vis-à-vis stepping down of Premier from his office .

Mr. Jamali likely wanted to float some suggestions to Pres. Musharraf aimed at reconciliation with some leaders of ruling alliance with whom he has reportedly developed differences, sources added
