Abrar's new video creates ripples
by AMIRA ZAIDI
Another scintillating video production by director Sohail Javed, of Abrar-ul-Haq's title track 'Nacha Mein Oday Naal' that was released last May but the video lags behind almost a year later. Hats off to Faakhir who quickly launched his two main videos just before releasing his second album. But after the video, all Abrar-ul-Haq fans would agree that it was worth the wait. It is about a photojournalist Sadaf, who is also a fan of Abrar.
She attends his concert where she takes his photographs. Then at a rehearsal, which is beautifully shot at the Goan Community Hall, they both turn up but there's no communication between them. Abrar, for a change is not singing on a side like he's done previously, while actors act out the male part. Abrar is the main role himself. At the end, there comes the students' ball where there's chemistry between Sadaf and Abrar and finally they get to talk to each other. The room is packed with students dressed according to the ball's code. Both at the concert and the ball, there are dance groups at the back, dancing behind Abrar to well choreographed moves.
Like Sohail previously shocked the viewers and totally revamped the image of Rahim Shah with Ishq, this time he has again given us a breath of fresh air with Abrar's look, though the story could have stretched a little further than this.
Abrar's attire remains the usual, at least in the beginning, while stylist Saima has given him bronze spikes in the hair that gave him a very jazzy look. Feedback says that he looks a lot younger in the video. His look in the beginning of the video is more like how you'd see him at his concerts but later on, like at the rehearsal he is nicely dressed in a burgundy shirt and beige pants. As he arrives at this hall and climbs up the stairs, he pulls down his sunglasses, no not his black Pradas, instead a lightly tinted rimless pair of shades and lots of spikes in the hair again - quite fresh indeed. On the whole, the video speaks more of appearances, styles and the ambience of the locations rather than a story that the song did deserve.
