LAHORE - The coloured digital version of historical epic 'Mughal-e-Azam' considered the greatest film ever made in sub continent failed to attract cinegoers on the first day of its release. The first two shows of the film were not packed to full capacity.
Films in Pakistan are mostly released on Friday but Mughal-e-Azam was an exception with a Sunday release at only Gulistan cinema. The film will be released in other cities on June 2. The premiere of the film was held on Saturday with a lot of pomp and show.
Rashid, manager of Gulistan Cinema, said the film was released without any publicity. "Most of the people still do not know that 'Mughal-e-Azam' has been released in the country. The film will definitely draw crowds in the coming days when people would come to know about the release," he explained.
The film was released in a hurry with a single print as producer's UK-based son Akbar Asif wanted it to be the first Indian film to hit Pakistani cinemas after 24 years.

Taj Mahal will get the better business even though it has been huge flop everywhere. Thanks to our media which in the last couple of weeks is aggressively promoting the film.
Just wish our media could do the same when it comes to Pakistani films.
I am hoping that both films flop.

Mughal-e-Azam has just been running as a special case in one cinema in Pakistan without any publicity. The release of the film is going to be on the 2nd of June as per the news in the papers. Probably will come to know then if the film fairs well at the box office or not.
However, Taj Mahal is also not doing bad. It has done good business in Karachi and also in some cinemas in Lahore.

Taj Mahal fails to click

LAHORE: Indian movie ‘Taj Mahal’, which was highly advertised and projected by both the Indian and Pakistani media, has failed to attract Pakistani cine-goers in the first week of its release, sources told The Post Saturday.
The sources said that cinema administration was seriously considering stopping the movie as it was not making handsome business to meet its expenses.
The movie’s first premier was held on April 26 at Plaza Cinema which was attended by several renowned artistes from Bollywood and Lollywood, while the regular shows started on April 28. People seemed so keen about the launch of an Indian movie in Pakistani cinemas after a lapse of more than four decades.
Taj Mahal was simultaneously launched in three cinemas of Lahore (Plaza, Imperial and Sozo World) because experts had anticipated the movie to be a huge success.
Muhammad Mubashir, an accountant at Plaza Cinema, told The Post that the movie couldn’t live up to the investors’ expectations.
“The cinema has a seating capacity for about 850 viewers but not more than 100-120 people came to see the movie in each show,” he said
He said the before Taj Mahal’s launch, they were exhibiting King Kong at their cinema which was shown for 16 consecutive months and generated a lot of revenue for the cinema. “We have to stop playing Taj Mahal in its third week of release to avoid further loss,” he said.
Mubashir said the main reason for the movie’s low turnover was the changed taste of Pakistani public. “People don’t want to see costume films,” he said, adding that today’s public would love to see vulgar dramas but not a serious love story. He claimed that everything including the story, acting and picturisation of the movie was good. Taj Mahal had also failed to attract Indian viewers during its release there.

i dnt think its costume drama, but its the films.
mugal-e-azam is old and even floped in india, how can it run in pakistan, was bad mistake to release it and taj mahal is just sh*t.
the films lacked star power, it was just like watching a big budget pakistan film. if salman khan or shah ruck had been in the film they would have been huge hits.

well there are several reasons why pakistanis peoples didn't rush to the cinema:
1. I read somewhere there were also threat from a radical islamic group
2.Pakistani peoples already watched this movie on the dvds.
and the third reason why majajan is doing well, coz it is not realesed on the vcd/dvd..
