. Nando's is haraam (animal not slaughtered within islamic laws)
    
2. Greg's cheese pasty is haraam (contains animal fat)

3. Hienz Baked Beans is haraam (it contains spirit vineger, which is alcohol based)

4. Ambrosia Rice Pudding is haraam (it contains whey powder, which is haraam)

2. Animal Shortening*
3. Animal Fat *
4. Bacon
5. Broth* (from animals)
6. Enzymes*: Microbial Enzymes are okay
7. Ethanol
8. Ethyl alcohol
9. Gelatin*
10. Gin
11. Ham
12. L-cysteine (if from human hair)
13. Lard
14. Lipase*: Only animal lipase should be avoided
15. Pepsin
16. Rennet*: All forms should be avoided except for plant/microbial/synthetic.
17. Rum
18. Stock* (from animals)
19. Wine
20. Tallow*
21. Vanilla Extract/Flavour
22. Whey : Should be avoided unless the rennet used in its production is plant/microbial/synthetic.

* May be consumed if from Halal, Zabihah, animals

An alphabetical list of Halal and Haram ingredients to look out for:



Bacon: A side of pig meat (pork).

Choletsorol: type of fat always of animal origin. If extracted from Zabiha animal, it is Halal.

Diglyceride: Emulsifier. If of animal origin it should be suspected till the source is known.

Gelatin (Jello Gelatin): Usually of animal origin, mostly from pig. If extracted from a dhabiha animal, then it is halal/

Glycerol (Glycerine): It could be of animal, plant or Glyceryl-Stearate synthetic origin. If animal source is used, it is suspected.

Hormones: Usually animal hormones are used for human consumption. One has to find out the source before passing a judgement.

Lard: Fat from swine particulaly found in the abdominal cavity. Totally Haram for us.

Magnesium Stearate (stearic acid): Used as an active ingredient in medicine tablets. Haram when derived from animal source.

Mono Glycerides: When derived from animal source. (Halal when the source is plant).

Pepsin: A digestive enzyme mostly from pig stomach.

Rennin (Rennet): A protein Enzyme. Usually not labeled. (In most cheeses).

Shortening: Fats and oils of animal origin. Animal/Lard

Vanilla: Extracted using alcohol.

Vitamins: Haram when from animal source. Mostly the source is synthetic or plant and are Halal.

Whey: Used in ice creams and yogurt. Haram when from animal source.

The arabic word Haram means unlawful. The following items have been categorically spelled out as being Haram by jurists in light of the Holy Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet Mohammad :

1. Pig
2. Blood
3. Carnivorous animals
4. Almost all reptiles and insects
5. The bodies of dead animals
6. Halal animals which are not slaughtered according to the Islamic Law.
7. Wine, Ethyl Alcohol, and Spirits.

The above mentioned items are Haram and should be avoided by all Muslims.

Do not dig too much into the source of where the food was originated from. You won't be able to eat anything in West if you do so.

I am not an Aalima. God forgive me if I my understanding is not right. But the way I look at it is very simple.
1. If the Meat is not halal, just don't eat it.

2. If you are buying a product that does not have any thing that seems haram (like pork, gelatin etc). Go ahead, and buy it.

3. Do not go crazy about finding out if the animal you are about to eat was raised Islamically or not.
