Interview : Priyanka basks in the glory of 'Krrish'
Printer friendly page
Priyanka Chopra, who has had a phenomenal career growth, performed at a show in Antwerp with Kareena Kapoor and Malaika Arora and says it was like a girls' day out.
'No guys. Just us three girls dancing. It was fun,' said Priyanka, who performed in the Belgian city last week.
'Since I came in 2002, I have had some successes. I am very excited. My tagline for the success of 'Krrish' is, 'Krissh arrives Superman returns.' Isn't that cool? I love it. I am so excited about the success of 'Krrish'. I have never planned anything in life. When these wonderful things happen to me, I am just so grateful,' a smiling Priyanka told us.
Life is looking rosy after 'Krrish' in which Hrithik Roshan played the title role.
'It's been just two weeks since its release. I wish I had more time to enjoy the success. But at least I am in Mumbai. I feel really bad for Duggu (Hrithik) because he is away. I can see how people are reacting.
'On the day of the release, I went theatre hopping. I stood outside the exits of eight-nine theatres and heard people go mad. I loved it.'
Priyanka has clearly come to terms with the somewhat tepid response she personally got for 'Krrish'.
'Whatever people say I won't allow it to take it away from my pleasure at the success of 'Krrish'. Hrithik is a fantastic actor. Anyone who works with him has to try really hard to be as good as him. I am learning on the job. I can't tell you how much I have learnt from Rakesh and Hrithik Roshan during 'Krrish'.'
For the first time, Priyanka talks about the pain she went through during the shooting of 'Krrish'.
'I am not making excuses for people's reaction. But I really went through sh*tty times during the shooting. My dad fell ill, and it was a trying time for me. But I don't want to blame any personal circumstance for my bad clothes, makeup, whatever. It was my fault.
'As a professional I have to give 100 percent of myself to a film, no matter what trials I may have gone through. If I seem lackadaisical in the film, I have no right to do so. Now I have become a lot more conscious about my responsibilities. I can't take anything for granted.'
It's being said that Priyanka has the maximum number of hits to her credit after Hema Malini.
'Wow that's flattering. I love Hema-ji. She is so beautiful. Along with Hema-ji my favourites are Madhuri Dixit, Sridevi and Kajol. They are my temples and institutions.'
Her next release will be Dharmesh Darshan's 'Aap Ki Khatir'.
'I don't know how the film has shaped up. But I am very happy with my role and performance. I am waiting for that film to surprise me as well. What thrills me most is the variety of directors I am working with. If Dharmesh is a class act, Nikhil Advani, with whom I am shooting 'Salaam-E-Ishq' at this very moment, is another ball game.
'Nikhil is such a caring director. He gives me time to prepare myself. If I need extra minutes to do my makeup he waits patiently. I tell you, good things happen to good people. Nikhil is one of them.'
At the moment Priyanka hasn't signed anything new.
'Because I haven't been enthused by anything to that extent. Of course, there are plenty of offers. But I am playing it safe. At this moment I can't afford to slip up. I know how hard I have worked to get here.'

Shah Rukh Khan seems to be on a remake fling. After playing Dilip Kumar in ‘Devdas’ and Amitabh Bachchan in ‘Don’ he is out to slip on the role of Rishi Kapoor in the remake of ‘Karz’ titled ‘Om Shanti Om’. This is choreographer-turned-filmmaker Farah Khan’s forthcoming venture and has been is loosely inspired from Subhash Ghai’s blockbuster ‘Karz’. The film pairs Shah Rukh Khan opposite newcomer Deepika Padukone.
Shah Rukh after ‘Karan Arjun’ sets in once again to do this film on reincarnation and was very excited about the film when Farah said that she intended to make a film on the lines of ‘Karz’. Assumingly Shah Rukh plays the role of Rishi Kapoor and Deepika Padukone will play Tina Munim. Another highlight of the enterprise is that it will have the feeling of a 1980s Bollywood film and will be a musical. Shah Rukh will be playing double role enacting the part of both Raj Kiran and Rishi Kapoor from the original. He will play Om, his love interest is Shanti and is reborn again as Om. ‘Om Shanti Om’ is also the chartbuster song of the film. Farah is working on the script now and plans to start another film ‘Happy New Year’ later. Hunt is on for the role of Simi Garewal and Sushmita Sen is being considered for it. Farah Khan doesn’t divulge further details but says that Shah Rukh Khan is surely in it.

Interview : Ever-***y screen queen Zeenat Aman
Printer friendly page
Zeenat Aman was hailed as Bollywood’s sex symbol of the 70s. Even at her age today, she doesn’t ceases to look attractive. She was one actress of her time, who has delivered many hit films and has also paired opposite leading man like Rajesh Khanna, Amitabh Bachchan, Dev Anand, Dharmendra and many more. She did a number of successful and semi-successful films in the 1970s. At the peak of her career she married Mazhar Khan, and baring one or two films she has done, she has not decided to make a big time comeback yet.
Excerpts from the Interview:
You’ve been a trendsetter of your times and today young actresses like Mallika and Celina are following your footsteps. How do you feel about it?
I can’t exactly say that I’m a role model and don’t know how much contribution I’ve made to the industry. During my time I did things I had to do depending on the situations and consequences. I did things because I was asked to do them and didn’t know how to tackle it better. My modern westernised image was not something that I had planned. My films succeeded and I was continued to portray in a bold and sensuous way.
While your contemporaries are making a comeback, why don’t we see you in mother roles like them?
I’ve no idea about it and can’t say much on it. (Laughs) But I’m not getting roles others like Shabana Azmi, Rekha, Hema Malini and Dimple Kapadia are getting. Though I’m 50+ may be the filmmakers are still considering my ***y image. I think it’s better to stay ***y all your life something on the line of Sophia Loren. I’m looking forward to something very substantial to do.
You’ve rendered many hit films with Rajesh Khanna and get together once again with him for another film. Tell us something about it?
The film is called ‘Jaana’. It’s already complete and is ready for release. It is a film with an anti-smoking message. This will surely be a message for the youth. I haven’t watched the entire film, but some parts which I saw while dubbing looked interesting. The producer of the film is launching his son with it.
How accomplished you feel as a mother to your two sons?
Bringing up my two boys have been the happiest moments of my life. One is 19 and the other is 12. My elder son is studying in London doing his foundation degree in cinema and has plans to continue his education. He has plans to get into film direction.
